Show RULES GOVERNING FARM ENCAMPMENT Rules for the teams entering the dairy products judging contests at the farmers' encampment, July 15 to 18, have just been prepared and issued by Professor George B. Caine, dairy specialist for the Utah State Agricultural College. According to Professor Caine. the contesting teams will judge the quality and market grade of butter, cheese, milk and vanilla ice cream. Four samples of each produce will be scored and criticized. The rules governing the contest include: 1. Each county will be entitled to enter one team consisting of three members from that county. 2. Each contestant shall report to the superintendent of the contest at such time and place as may be announced. He will then be assigned as-signed a number and given such instructions in-structions as the superintendent may deem necessary. 3. The contestants shall be divided di-vided into groups, each consisting of not more than one member of each team. 4. No contestant shall be allowed to take any notebook or writing paper pa-per in the contest, except such cards as are provided by the superintendent superintend-ent of the contest. The superintendent superin-tendent of the contest shall furnish cards on which each contestant may keep a record of his scores and criticisms criti-cisms for his own use. 5. While the contest is in progress prog-ress there shall be no communication communica-tion between ' the contestants and anyone else, except as directed by the superintendent or his representative, represen-tative, and then only in the presence pres-ence of the superintendent. 6. The time allowance shall be ten minutes for each product with a five minute rest period between products. 7. The superintendent shall set out the representative samples of each product, showing good, medium and poor quality, with the judge's scores and criticisms attached. The contestant shall have access to these samples ten minutes, just previous to the scoring of the contest samples sam-ples and then only. Standard score cards will be used in judging the dairy products. The work of the contestants shall be graded on the following: The scores, criticisms and placing shall be graded separately, but the grades shall be added to form the total for each product, which shall be expressed ex-pressed negatively. The grades shall be established by a grading committee com-mittee consisting of the superintned-ent superintned-ent of the contest and such assistants assist-ants as he may select. Coaches are Invited to be present. The judges shall grade all criticisms and shall take the scores and statements into consideration when making the grade on criticisms. Prizes will be awarded to the winners win-ners of the judging contests. |
