Show ECONOMIC COOilT OUILlfOlECTS Twenty-Four Representatives of Towns in County Meet to Discuss Problems. Twenty-four men, recently appointed ap-pointed by the Washington county commissioners, met here Tuesday to work out plans and make recommendations for next year's program in this county. These men were selected select-ed to serve on the committee for one year. They work without with-out pay, their sole purpose being be-ing to improve financial conditions con-ditions here. The organization, perfected ai the meeting, will be known as the Economic Council of Washington Wash-ington county. Orval Hafen was chosen chairman, David Hirschi, vice-chairman, and Walter F. Smith, county agent, secretary. The following committees were appointed to outline detailed de-tailed programs. In each case the first named is chairman: Poultry E. R. Frei, Clement Gubler, Alma Flaingan, Vernon Leavitt and C. C. Starr. Livestock Antone Prince, George Seegmiller, Malin Cox, Deward Terry and Vernon Leavitt. Leav-itt. Fruit Harvey Jackson, Loren Squire, Amos Workman, Ed Mc-Mullin. Mc-Mullin. Vegetables Wallace Iverson, Amos Workman, Harvey Jackson, Jack-son, and A. P. Winsor. Forage crops George H. Seegmiller, Seeg-miller, Wallace Iverson, Malin Cox and Arthur D. Cox. Turkeys Clyde Gray, James Cottam, John R. Crawford, C. C. Starr. Finance David Hirschi, Orval Or-val Hafen and W. Wr. McAr-thur. McAr-thur. The following problems were listed as being the things requiring re-quiring immediate investigation in working out agricultural problems in Dixie. Survey of imports and exports, cooperative marketing, cost- of production of farm crops, meat, chickens, turkeys, farm sheep, hogs, dairy cattle, beef cattle, range sheep, goats and cattle, fruit, vegetables and potatoes; good roads to farms and communities, com-munities, financing fertilizer program, investigate water conservation, con-servation, study range problems, Dixie farm set-up, cooperating agencies, orchard management, club work, farm forestry, insect and rodent pests1, new industries, indus-tries, dual purpose of farm animals ani-mals for Dixie, farm stead arrangements, ar-rangements, farm equipment, and a study of experiment station sta-tion publications. |
