Show NEVADA ASKS BIDS FOR ROAD CONSTRUCTION February 10 Date Set for Opening Contractors Offers Of-fers on Ten Miles of Riverside Riv-erside - Mesquite Stretch The Nevada state highway department de-partment will open bids on February Feb-ruary 10 for the construction of 10.71 miles of new highway between Mesquite and the lower Virgin river bridge. Engineers have estimated that the project will involve expenditure expendi-ture of approximately $225,000. This is in addition to the new bridge now under construction a short distance below Mesquite which will cost, when completed, $110,000. Federal, aid and state funds will be used for the work which will include grading, graveling grav-eling and installation of culverts and other structures. The new highway will replace the winding trail through the hills on the south bank of the Virgin river between the two points and will . eliminate 28 curves as well as heavy grades. It will have only two curves with 8 3 degrees angle and will be 1.3 mile shorter. The road will remain within half a mile of the river bank all the way, in some instances coming as close as 200 yards, according to C. C. Boyer, division divi-sion highway engineer. The first six miles will provide pro-vide the heaviest construction ever undertaken in Clark county. The entire ten miles will be over a new route, making it possible to use the old highway high-way throughout the construction construc-tion period, thus eliminating any bad detours. With the completion of this highway and grading and oiling of the stretch from St. George to the Indian reservation, it will be possible to travel from Los Angeles to the Utah park district dis-trict over 100 per cent oil pavement. pave-ment.
