Show RECREATION SPOT ON I ML FEASIBLE Representatives of TVashing-ton TVashing-ton County Organizations Spend Last Friday Investigating Inves-tigating Possible Lake Site An artificial lake, on the top of Pine Valley mountain, at an elevation of 10,000 feet, that would serve two purposes, recreation recre-ation and the conservation of water for feeding the various springs in the foothills of the mountain, is entirely feasible, according to engineers who last Friday investigated possible sites tor such a project. In the party were Forest Ranger Ran-ger Ben Swapp, Game "Warden Oliver Stratton, Engineers Leo A. Snow, W. W. Cannon and t'Robt. Kenworthy, Dr. W. C. Cox, Milton E. . Moody, AValter F. Smith, agricultural agent; W. O. Bentley, stake president; John T. 'Woodbury, Jr., and Vernon Ver-non Worthen, representing the city of Sit. George; J. X. Gardner Gard-ner of Grass Valley; Peter E. Beckstrom, Reuben Gardner and Malin Cox of Pine Valley. The object of the trip was to establish the feasibility of building a lake which would be stocked with trout and to conserve con-serve water for irrigation purposes. pur-poses. All' towns along the foothills foot-hills would benefit from the conservation of this water. Those in the party from St. George left here early Friday morning arriving ar-riving in Pine Valley about 9 o'clock, leaving camp at 9:30. They arrived at the top before noon and spent until 4 o'clock on the mountain. Four valleys were investigated. investigat-ed. The principal one, or most logical site, was found to be in Cabin valley. There a 25-foot dam would back up sufficient water to cover about eight and a half acres. There is also a small site in North valley, which could be exploited at small expense. ex-pense. In West valley it is estimated es-timated that an inexpensive dam could be constructed which would cover five or more acres. In South or Lake valley a 12-foot 12-foot dam would back up water sufficient to cover five or six acres. All towns in this part of the county will be asked to cooperate in the project, and a plan of financing is now being worked out. |
