Show ESCALANTE MTIoTl9 Fifty Tons of New Equipment Equip-ment Arrived Last Friday Fri-day and Steel Rig Is Now Almost, Completed Development of Section 19 on the Bloomington dome, held by many to be the choice location for a -test well in this field, was started Monday by Escalante Explorations, Ex-plorations, Inc. A steel rig, one of the best ever brought into the state, is being erected and it is the intention to spud in as soon as this work is completed, which will be in about three weeks. Fifty tons of equipment, including includ-ing the rig and other material, arrived ar-rived here last Friday. The cement ce-ment piers were poured Sunday and work of erecting the rig began be-gan Monday noon. Some idea of the massiveness of the equipment may be had from the fact that 190 b:gs of cement were used in these piers upon which the rig rests. An expert erector came in from California and is assisting with the work. Twenty-six men are employed by the company, 15 at the new well site, six on dismantling the old derrick at Escalante No. 1, formerly the Mid-American, and five in extending the pipe line from the former operations to the site of the new. Water will be pumped from the Port Pierce (Continued on page 2) WILL DEVELOP SECTION 19 (Continued from page 11 wash, a distance of over two miles. The contract with the Diamond Drill Contracting company for the drilling cf well No. 1 has been transferred to Escalante No. 2. The same rotary equipment which made such good progress on the first, well, will be used. The work of moving this Is now in progress. One hundred thousand dollars will be spent, if necessary, on the cpera tions. Already the company has spent close to that amount in this field. Escalante No. 1 is being abandoned, aban-doned, the derrick and buildings are being dismantled, the casing is being pulled and all equipment will be moved to 19. The decision to abandon No. 1 was made when the rotary cores indicated that the well was on the edge cf the dome, and water precluded any possibility of bringing bring-ing in a producing well. At 1900 feet there were favorable indications indica-tions of gas and oil, but below that depth difficulties developed on account cf the stratas being filled with water, and it was decided de-cided that to drill deeper would be a waste cf time and money. Tire new well is located near the apex cf the dome on the south side of the hill, west and south of No. 1. The new site was selected by L. Z. Johnson, a prominent geologist ge-ologist of California, who spent two months in the field before making his, decision. When work stopped on -well No. 1 the drill was at a depth of 2526 feet, and it is thought that this depth is below the oil sands. If oil is to be found on the Bloomington dome, it is the opinion opin-ion of many that it will be encountered en-countered at a shallower depth. |
