Show NEW MECHANIGS ARTSjWILDlNG The new mechanics arts building of the Dixie college, south of the Arrowhead Arrow-head hotel is being hurriedly completed complet-ed so that it may be used. The first siorv only of the building will be completed com-pleted this year, it being the intention to add another story later. The building is 80x100 ( feet floor measurement and was built by Chester A. Kemp, the contractor, from plans furnished by David O. Woodbury of the D. C. faculty. Construction is of cement brick, adobe lined for coolness in summer and warmth in winter, with steel window sash and cement floors. It is being made ready for school work to be held in it right away, but will not be completed in detail until next fall. The physics laboratory and class room is 20x32'- feet, exclusive of a supply sup-ply room 10x24 feet and teachers office. The chemistry class room and laboratory labor-atory is 35x32'- feet, of which the ciass room occupies 21x29 feet. The mathematics and shop class-; class-; roo:n is 13x24 feet and has large double j door; so that an auto or other machine may be brought in for instruction purposes. pur-poses. The general shcpwork room includ- j ir.g the woodwork department and j i farm mechanics department is 27xSl I feet, and has large double doors to j admit machinery; included are the ; tool room, teachers office, paint room , and drafting room. Individual motors will be used for driving machinery. There is also an agriculture engineering engin-eering department with teachers of- I fice. etc. There are toilets and wash rooms . aplenty, separate for males and females, fe-males, and dressing rooms. There is also a dark room fo rmaking blue prims., developing, etc. Work on the building above the foundation was not started until the first of August. Contractor Kemp then started in earnest on the walls and with 24 men had them up in 12 days. The main hall is 8x72 feet. Floor joists are all laid ready for the second story as soon as it is decided to go ahead with it. We are all proud to see this addition to our Dixie college and hope the enrollment en-rollment may continue gaining until more buildings are necessary. The Dixie college is doing wonders for the development of Dixie and southern Utah, long and stoutly may it flourish. |
