Show : CITIZENS TIGKET IS iOlffMIIRl There was the biggest turnout to the citizens primary Tuesday night that the New-s man has ever seen here, much interest being shown. The meeting was called by- the precinct pre-cinct chairmen of both political parties, part-ies, and the district court room was crowded, many standing in the doorway door-way and outside in the hall. Arthur F. Miles was chairman and A. B. An-drus An-drus secretary. Judge David H. Morris nominated Henry T. Atkin for reelection to the office of mayor in a neat little speech in which he paid high tribute to the record made by Mr. Atkin during his present term as mayor. Applause greeted the nomination and there being be-ing no other candidate offered for the office, Mr. Atkin was nominated by acclamation. Geo. E. Miles for recorder was also al-so nominated by acclamation. Mr. Miles has occupied this office for ten years and the fact that there were no other nominations goes to show that the people have the utmost confidence confid-ence in him. There were three nominees for treasurer, Mrs. Laura A. Gates, the present deputy county clerk winning the nomination. The four nominees for Councilmen are James McArthur, William A. Whitehead, William Brooks and Joseph Jos-eph A. Judd. James McArthur received re-ceived the highest number of votes and was declared the nominee for long-term coucilman. The present hold-over councilman is John T. Woodbury. During the time the tellers were counting the ballots, talks on various matters were made by several citizens citi-zens and proposed measures for city betterment were discussed. High taxes and retrenchment, sewerage sew-erage and drainage, and other matters mat-ters were discussed, as was also the matters of bringing city lots into cultivation cul-tivation and making them revenue producers to make the excessive taxation tax-ation lighter for the people. Dr. D. A. McGregor told very interestingly in-terestingly of his recent trip by road from Rochester, Minn., through part of Canada and then coming back liome, giving the people present some new ideas as to camp grounds, care of tourists, etc., etc. Dr. Clare W. Woodbury sounded a note of warning as to health conditions condi-tions in the city, water supply, etc., saying it was something that will have to be taken notice of. |
