Show I BERT COVINGTON SEVERELY BURNED BY GAS EXPLOSION E L. Ccvington was severely burned on both hands and arms last Thursday at his place of business, the Modern Dyers and Cleaners. He had been using naptha to cleanse soiae clothing and just before one o'clock p. m. went from tho drying room to the furnace room to see that everything was o. k. before leaving for his dinner. There was a strong draft in the furnace and directly he opened the door between the two rooms, he says he saw a blue flame start from the furnace to him which ignited the las on his arms. He was alone and tried to put the flames out with some curtains. Failing in this he went to the door and shouted for some one to P-it the flames, which had spread to the clothing in the place, out. The 'lames on his hands and arms burnt themselves out before assistance arrived, ar-rived, and the fire in the room was put out with a chemical extinguisher. A'i the skin was burnt off both hands and arms, the worst being the palms of his hands. The clothing which had km treated with naptha was about ' -'eet from the furnace. Mr. Covington was rushed to the 'oral hospital and is doing as well as n be expected. He expects to be out in about a week. -he damage to clothing he estimates at about $400 and damage to the room at about $100. H:s many friends sympathize with h:m in his suffering and loss. |
