before 9 am Monday at Ver nal airport Lady Bird wife of US President Lyndon B Johnson had the crowd of about 1000 under her spell After the plane had ged dozens of reporters and cameramen for wire services radio television and other media there was a brief pause and Lady Bird appear appear- appeared ed s SHE SHI WAVED beamed and crowd cheered After official greetings and surrounded by a small mob of newsmen she walked along the fence that separates the runway from the lawn and shook hands with everyone she could reach particularly little children The First Lady was supposed supposed ed to
