Show d 9 d i R k 1 a hW Jt wn h a d N er Sibyl Cook Mauri Cuch and Kent Jorgensen salute the flag while Edred holds it Learning about our flag and country are just fust some of the many things that second graders do at W Russel Todd School a f J J tI School News Views ASHLEY ELEMENTARY SCIENCE NEWS Mss Mrs Rex's 3rd Grade Our class is very interested in science this month because of the Science Fair McCoy made a report on gravity grav- grav gravity ity April Fletcher has a weather project She is keep keep- keeping ing track of o the clouds and sunshine Many of our class have entered their projects in the fair Those winning rib rib- ribbons bons were Clark blue Bill Reynolds blue Joc- Joc Jocelyn Jocelyn elyn Jensen blue Craig Ste red and Glenna Henry white MARCH WINDS By Lynn Sessions March is a very changeable month Sometimes it snows and sometimes it blows in March Sometimes it is sunny and warm Boys and girls like to fly their kites in the March winds Kite flying is fun but everyone should remember to obey the safety rules The students in Miss Kil- Kil Killian's Killian's lians lian's third grade are begin begin- beginning ping ning a new science unit We Weare Weare are learning about rocks We have many samples of differ differ- different different ent types of rocks We are all trying to find out about the samples we have by making reports Some of the reports we have had already covered coal graphite and gold In our English class last week we wrote plays from stories we had read After we had decided who would speak each part and had practiced we made a tape recording The taps was played to the whole class We were all amazed at the sound of our own voices We found that we had a lot lotof of fun and at the same time we learned how to write plays HOME ECONOMICS DEPT Reporter Carol Varnum This year in Home Ec we learned a lot about both cook cook- cooking cooking ing and sewing In the begin begin- beginning beginning ning of the year most of our work was in our notebooks learning correct methods for cooking and sewing Our first unit of sewing was wason wason on something for our rooms Many girls made pillows and curtains Our next unit on sewing was a reversible vest and op- op optional optional style skirt A few girls are planning on entering them in the fair After our sewing units we went into cooking We cooked a lot of delicious dishes in- in inI including I eluding pork chops I and pizza After a a couple of months in inI I cooking we turned again to sewing sewing Most of the girls are making spring dresses Some are quite far along but others still have quite a ways to go When we finish the clothes we are working on now we weare weare are going to do some extra sewing or cooking to finish the year Reporter Linda Mecham We at Junior High School are busy as bees In November we made pajamas and had a fashion show Our mothers and friends were invited in- in invited We had a program and refreshments We held a baby shower on the last Friday of January for Mrs Anna Lee Chamberlain our Homemaking Health and PE teacher The gymnasium was decorated with pink and blue The gifts were presented and a few skits were put on onby onby by the students The new new teacher who took Mrs Chamberlains Chamberlain's place is Mrs Myers We enjoy work work- working working ing with her very much She has given us the privilege of making dresses or skirts and blouses this month We enjoy sewing very much with such sucha a wonderful teacher We enjoy PE too with its wide variety of activities |
