Show 3 i W r x i ia a MR AND MRS LESLIE P Thacker married 60 years ago on Sept 6 1922 in the Salt Lake Temple celebrate 60 years An open house In honor of Mr and Mrs Leslie P Thacker's wedding anniversary will be held Friday Sept 24 from 7 to 9 pm at the Vernal Fifth Ward Chapel North West Mr and Mrs Leslie P Thacker were married on Sept 6 1922 In the Salt Lake Temple Stella Vernon Thacker has spent most of her life in the Uintah Basin She attended Brigham Young University and became a school teacher She was a aleader aleader leader in the H 4 4 H club work in the Maeser Ward and has held many positions in the Church such as secretary of the Stake Primary a counselor in the Relief Society a counselor in the MIA and a teacher In inmany many of the ward auxiliary organizations Leslie P Thacker spent most of his early life in Milburn Wyoming He Herode Herode rode horseback over Taylor Mountain at the age of 18 All of his worldly possessions were tied on behind a second hand saddle Mr Thacker's first accomplishment in the church was organizing and registering the first Scout Troop In Inthe inthe the Vernal area This happened In 1919 Feron Hacking was the first Scout to pass the tenderfoot test Mr Thacker has held many other position in the church including ward chorister president of Young Men MIA MM counselor In the Sunday School counselor In Inthe inthe the Elders Elder's quorum presidency and counselor In the High Priest presidency Mr Thacker was a farmer stockman carpenter and welder He also drove a school b bus s for many years Mr Thacker has an excellent tenor voice and has often been called on to sing In school operas church programs weddings and funerals lie Ile has also written some poetry during his is retirement years The following Is one of his poems composed at t the age of 77 years entitled Im Thankful Im I'm Thankful Im I'm thankful that I came this way For the blessings I receive from day to today today day For health and an strength and loving care For the bright sunlight and the clear fresh air Im I'm thankful that I chanced to meet meetA meetA A certain girl who lived on a certain street With a certain twinkle in her eye With the sweetest smile just a little shy Just a farmers farmer's daughter the milkmaid style With things on her mind that were well worthwhile A few good turns she would like to do doTo doTo To be a friend and to be true blue I looked in her eyes and I thought I could see Some Intelligence there that appealed to me She was thoughtful and kind as everyone should Her desires of life were fo do something s good So I thought to my self I am sure I can see What a lifes life's companion that lady could be So we dated and danced and went to church together Buggy rides sleigh rides In all kinds of wea weather ther We were married In the Temple in 1922 Our posterity now numbers quite a few After sixty happy years I would still like to say sayI I am still very very thankful I 1 came this way The are the parents of two children Dale F Thacker of Vernal and Doral Thacker of Mesa Ariz They have ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren makes the beverage that much more appealing Still others claim that picking up upa upa a frosty bottle adds to the satisfaction of their favorite drink Of course there are those who doubt that peo pie have a preference for any particular beverage con con- container tamer But now a recent study prepared by an inde inde- independent pendent consumer research group indicates that the standing longstanding preference for glass containers is based on ona ona a strong belief that beer soda and fruit drinks taste better retains carbonation longer and looks better Some consumers even went so far as to say that they disliked the taste of any beverage In anything other than glass Allied Chemical a leading producer of soda ash a araw araw raw material used in the manufacture of glass con con- containers containers notes that the study indicates indicate that consumer preference for glass is both real and evident in the marketplace |
