Show Farmers Home Administration Aids Farms in Uintah County By Officials At the present time ther there are approximately farms in Uintah County and 45 In Daggett County Most of these farm units are so small that it is very difficult to operate them as a farm unit Due to the relatively high elevation the growing seaS sea season son Is somewhat shorter than thanin thanin in some areas of the state The problems due to this short growing season the un- un uneconomical economical sizes of farms and the relatively poor grade of livestock in this area brought about the need of an agency such as the Farmers Home Administration in this area THE BASIC objective of Farmers Home Administration lion tion an agency of the United States Department of Agri Agri- Agriculture culture is to help the own own- owners ers era and tenants of these farms with technical advice In connection with their farming operation cre credit lit and credit counseling and In gen oral cral administer a program of supervised credit This basic objective of Farmers Home Lion is carried out under the presently existing authorities of this agency This agency also cooperates with and re- re receives to full cooperation n from all federal and state agencies connected with agriculture in this area Under the loaning author ties of Farmers home Admin Admin- Administration no farmer or group of farmers is helped that isable Is Isable able to obtain the necessary credit under rates and terms that they can be expected to fulfill from private or other credit sources BEFORE THE United States Slates Department of Agri Agri- Agriculture culture enten entered d the field of I Continued on page 8 Fal Fai Continued from page 1 supervised credit the quality of livestock was much poorer than it is today Probably one of tho most Important sere ices offered to farmers In this I area area in the early days of the program was to provide Gred iL It and assistance In setting UI up bull blocks These hull bull blocks enabled formerS farmers and groups of farm era to have available lly ity sires for their livestock This along with a careful culling program has improved ed the quality of livestock now now found In this area Many farm families have hava also benefited to a great ex tent by the counseling to In re- re regard re Bard gard to money management and nd home management tices which has been by this agency In August ot of 1959 the county office at al Vernal was closed and all accounts In and Daggett counties were serviced from the coun ty office for Duchesne coun ty at Roosevelt In 1981 1961 the authorities of Home Administration WEre WE're broad broadd broadened ened Because of these broad end cued authorities and because of the apparent need of a county office In Uintah coun ty ly an office waS again lashed In Vernal The present county office opened In ht Ver nal lIal on January 2 1982 1962 BASED ON the lion available the following Is a summary of the Farmers home Administration pro gram In Uintah and Daggett counties at this time There are arc presently 7 families In for Farr Ownership loans There are arc 25 families indebted for Rural housing loans There Is one other Real Estate loan and 2 Individual Soil SoU and Water Conservation loons loans In addition to the tho real estate loans there are also 34 families receiving assist anee ance under operating loans and 8 0 under emergency loans This agency also has 5 15 as ac- active tive association loans for soil and water development Un der this type loan alone theN them are arc approximately fann families receiving assistance To these 5 associations a 11 total of 50 has been loaned and at the present time they are arc ahead of schedule on repay ments BASED ON the lien available It would ap pear that approximately 75 of farm families In tah und and Daggett counties have received some type as I Itah from this agency agene This assistance would either be In the form of a loan ser vice from from an association credit counseling or some other indirect benefits brou about by Farmers home Administration The loan funds which in most cases are spent with local business establishments add consider ably to the tho economy of a 11 rural TUral area It Is anticipated that there will always be a need for this agency In these counties The most important types of loans In the future will wUl likely be beForm Form Ownership to help farm families s acquire enough real estate to have an econ size unit and Rural Housing loans to provide the necessary dwellings and other farm structures In conS can with their farming operation Rural Housing loans will likely also provide much needed credit for dwellings on tracts |
