Show Uinta Mountain study told A new study will examine the thc ecological requirements for trout in Uinta Mountain streams and will concentrate on minimum flow requirements it was announced recently by two Federal and one State agency The agencies sponsors of th the study are the US U.S. Bureau of of Reclamation the US U.S. Fish and Wildlife Servi Service e and the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources A contract has been awarded to the Utah State University Cooperative Fishery Unit for a year six-year program of study The objectives of the study are to predict and quant quantify y through the use of a general stream model changes in the stream ecosystem which occur cur with variation in flows and to help predict efficiently and accurately changes in fish and other aquatic life populations which would result SURVIVAL AT T all stages of of trout life history eggs fry juveniles and adults growth metabolism and behavior willbe will willbe willbe be examined under different flow regimes at all seasons of the year Selected interrelated physical chemical and biological components will be studied simultaneously This would have great application in developing water resource project plans by bythe the Bureau Buteau of Reclamation Wildlife agencies can use the analysis of impacts to the stream fishery in determining minimum flow recommendations Part of the study requirements are to construct a series of diversion structures waterways and fish weirs to control for study purposes The Upper Strawberry River Utah in the Uinta National Forest has been selected for far the field study ar area a. a TIlE THE STUDY to tobe be completed |
