resources for foraging foraging foraging aging and retired people The purpose of the workshop was to Increase the knowledge of skills of administrators in the utilization and development of resources for aging and retired people in the community through a Community Services Services Services' Ser Sere vices vices' Fair setting and ap ap- ap- ap Tin MAIN lAIN goal was to Increase increase In In- crease rease the working knowledge of administrators on the services services services ser ser- vices currently available foraging for foraging foraging aging and retired people and thereby enable weeks She has been HI III with the flu We wish her and anyone else who is Ill 11 a n speedy recovery Each ach week we have tried to bring you some Interesting and perhaps unknown jobs or hobbies hobbles of some of our senior citizens Hope eventually to 0 include all of you OUR INTERESTING HESTING person this week Is Lena Dow Mrs Donnell She enjoys al all l types of handwork quilting crocheting knitting and etc But making rugs on a No 36 rug loom is her favorite hobby These rugs are made from all types of fabrics old drapes bedspreads dresses blankets nylons j jeans ans and such Following cutting the fabrics into strips she sews them on a treadle machine and winds wind them into balls about the size of ofa a basketball She then looms them into rugs which average about 28 inches in width and anywhere from 18 Inches to 12 feet in length She even loomed one carpet that was twelve feet square Lena has been doing this for some twenty-three twenty years and averaged one onea a a day per pcr year until th the last few years The number of rugs she has made exceeds at this time These rugs have been sent or taken to 18 different states from Boston Massachusetts to California from Texas to the Canadian border Overseas they have traveled to Germany Puerto Rico and Australia that she knows of For several years she has put th the warp on the rug looms a at the New Life Training Center Another interest of Lena is collecting rocks from each state they ha have ve visited If you know of any senior citizen who has an in interesting hobby or occupation and would like
