Show Save The Deer Dear Editor There once was waG a man who as a boy was taught to enjoy the outdoors fishing fish ing hunting camping etc As this man grew to manhood and became a father he too had a son whom he desired should have the enjoyment and thrills associated with the outdoors especially especially deer hunting But now comes the sad part of this drama it seems that now there Is very little reason for the father to excite his son about hunting because there are so very few deer left to hunt Oh but never fear because the father can always show the son pictures pictures pic pic- tures of successful hunts had in the past tell him of the fun had then between fathers and sons hunting together reminisce reminisce re reo re- re about how great things once were when there were deer etc Of course that ought to satisfy anybody hadn't it Who are arc we trying to fool Who is to blame for this shameful way things are becoming Is it too late to correct this situation What can we as individuals individuals who love to hunt do about it Here lIere are a few suggestions I believe might help 1 1 Each of us make our feelings known to 1 local game personnel I asked a local veteran game warden where the deer are and he said there weren't many and t that hat h a t he repeatedly repeatedly re reo re- re so stated without having his opinion considered seriously next appeal to 2 the Utah Fish and Game and the Governor 2 2 We as individual hunters become true sportsmen and not shoot docs does and fawns each young doe doc shot probably represents the of about 10 potential deer of the future 3 3 Encourage the discontinuance of selling so many licenses to people from other states Other states have had to todo todo todo do that why cant can't we Why must mast we suffer while other states exploit our resources re sources 4 4 Encourage everyone to think about the future instead of allowing our Fish and Game to be so concerned about making money from our game that they critically endanger the future of our game herds 5 Remind the Fish and Game Board oard of Big Dig Game they are hired by us us usI to I use wisdom and honest statistics In establishing policies relative to our deer herds If they want all the deer killed off why not set poison out during the seasons off-seasons 6 6 Encourage the establishment at least until the deer herds show definite signs of increase and balance of having buck only hunts in our area where the deer population is so low I know some will kill kiU does docs and leave them but why make the majority suffer because of the thoughtlessness of a few 7 Limit each person to one deer tag per year to be filled either with bow and arrow or rifle as they may choose but to have but one hunt Remember my boy and lots more like him who will want to hunt and who should be entitled to that privilege Hearing of the past is great but it will never take the place of actually being out there having the real experience I This is a democracy we wo live in and we can make a difference by expressing our views to tho proper people in the proper ways but if wo we are arc to act it must be now If you agree with this article cut it out add to it or eliminate B any part of it and mail it to the Division of Wildlife Resources 1596 West North Temple Salt Lake City Utah Sincerely CURTIS HUNSAKER TOPS LIGHTERS DAY Members of the TOPS Lighters Club met Thursday in the courthouse auditorium Conducting was president Phyllis Turner After weigh-in weigh and roll call Cherie Womack was honored as queen of the week Thoughts were presented for the week by Sarah Kettle and Sharon Willer Wilier Mrs 1 Willer Wilier presented the new contest to the group Betty etty Bowden owden received the no rio money and the no-no no food for the next week is potatoes Minnie gave the treasurers treasurers treasurer's treasurers treasurer's trea trea- surer's report Annie Simper was queen of the month for October Members brought various Christmas items for display and explained to the group how they were made |
