Show Title I Reports On Phoenix Trip Grant Droll Drollinger director of Title I Ifor for the Uintah School District with two of cf his stiff staff members Norma Denver and June Lyman was in Phoenix last we k k to pres present nt a summary of the Title Tille TilleI I programs to the Department Heads of the Bureau of Indian Affairs at the Phoenix Area Office The presentation was given special commendation by BIA administrators because of the cooperation evidenced by the Ute Tribe the community the Uintah School District the BIA and the Center for Western Studies at the University University Uni Uni- of Utah UTE STUDENTS have their own history history his his- tory text book in grades t z 7 and 11 of the Uintah School District and have field trips for Indian and non non Indian Indian students that emphasize local culture and history his his- tory Programs developed in the Title I schools have gained state wide statewide wide An afternoon program of similar content content con tent was given at the Phoenix Indian High School to see students Melvin 1 Schwartz former U and 0 O superintendent dent and now assistant area director Phoenix Area Office of BIA arranged for the entire trip THE BIA paid expenses for the Title I personnel Also in the group were Archie Curley education specialist for BIA Fort Duchesne Fred Conetah Ute Tribal business committeeman and Robert Robert Rob Rob- ert Chapoose education director for the Ute Tribe Cecelia Jenks a former resident of Ouray now note working at the Phoenix Area Office took the group to the Phoenix Indian High School where they had lunch toured the campus and had conferences with the 10 Ute students in attendance there |
