Show MAKING LIFE A CLI HANGER CLIFF N e k 1 v vv It v AH E S ASS SS o u 0 Ae o WILL IT BE A PROSPEROUS YEAR It is traditional this time of year for us to wish each other a Happy and Prosperous New Year This year is no exception of course Happiness we believe is an internal and highly individualized matter And this country offers biters an unequalled place to pursue it However regarding the wish for a prosperous New Year there is an ominous trend which sho should ld give all of us pause This is the growing government control over how a businessperson businessperson businessperson business- business person runs his business and the staggering amount of paperwork paperwork paperwork paper paper- work h he must file with the government to comply with the law Furthermore this governmental strangulation of business is actually sounding the death knell for a rising number of com corn companies panics and their employees Consider a recent report of the US U.S. Senate Select Committee on Small Business It says that as of the end of 1976 a business business business busi- busi busi busi- ness in this country had only a one-in-four one chance of surviving Nor was 1976 alone as a bad year After reaching a year three-year high in 1974 the rate of business failures had climbed another 20 per cent in 1975 And when businesses fail everyone loses For the private sector not government provides the bulk of our jobs and the material plenty we all pH enjoy So when we wish everyone a prosperous New Year it must be w. w with h the full realization that it is becoming harder each year to prosper This is intolerable in a nation which has always afforded the greatest opportunity for the greatest number of people to be happy and to prosper |
