A Jt TAMARACK STAFF members visit an old cabin while researching for an article last winter Second issue of the Uintah Basin Tamarack is published Tamarack a folklore project by Uintah High School Vernal Junior High and West Junior High Highby students is now being sold sold by the Uintah School District The Tamarack is the only one of its kind in Utah according to Vernal Junior High Tamarack advisor George McCully Other advisors are Wally Goddard Uintah High School and Jay Van Wagoner West Junior High Tamar Tamarack ck is patterned after Foxfire 2 a magazine in Northern Georgia There are 40 to 50 magazines in the United States There are only four or five in the West They're mainly in the East and South commented commented com McCully J TAMARACKS TAMARACK'S first edition was published in January 1976 The second edition came out in November and is being sold for in various businesses in Vernal The page 76 book contains four sections-old sections workmanship workmanship workmanship work work- manship history old school schoolhouses schoolhouses schoolhouses houses and stories The magazine is also being sold in Salt Lake City bookstores Some of the articles in the second edition are pictures and a story about Raymond Bullocks Bullock's relics collection pictures of stained glass glass' windows windows windows win win- dows 1925 Vernal Express clippings an article on how times have changed and three stories and poems by Sue Watson McCully stated that the students take the photographs photographs- layout the magazine and do all ail Il the research The students learn skills and then put them to use in a project remarked remarked- McCully George McCully i is an English teacher at Vernal Junior High Anyone who lives lives' outside of Vernal can obtain a a copy of Tamarack by writing to to the Uintah School District i |
