Show fP Uintah Utes Take Sixth State Wrestling Championship Saturday evening the Uintah High School wrestling team acquired top position position pos pos- at the state tournament finals for forthe forthe forthe the sixth consecutive year THIS YEAR at the Pleasant Grove gym the Uintah Utes Ute became the envy of the state slate in the triple A competition Wrestling has become a traditional greatness with the Utes The large number number num num- ber of local fans and the determined spirit of the team members has been the obvious factor in the long winning streak of the Ute wrestlers The Ute team took bok the Pleasant Grove tournament with 86 points The closest contenders to the Utes was Pleasant Grove with points Other schools down the line were Lehi Lehl 54 Davis Bingham 33 Jordan 32 Cyprus Cyprus Cy Cy- Cy 28 Springville 24 Carbon 11 Spanish Fork 10 Judge Memorial 2 and Payson 2 2 THREE FIRST place championships three third and one fourth were taken by the Ute wrestlers of the eleven who entered the state tournament Those taking state championship were Tim McDonald at pounds Cliff Grua at pounds and Richard Logan at pounds Uintah's Wayne Kurtz was upset at Ibs by Dan Clark of Davis in 10 0 lopsided battle while Springville's John Marshall handed PG s Vaughn Maxfield an 86 8 loss THE UTES lost Dee Jay Chivers out of the tournament At pounds Tim McDonald was almost upset by Ben Torrie of Bingham Tim controlled the match all but about the last 30 seconds seconds sec sec- r I when Torrie turned on him getting a head lock and almost pinning him Tim came back to win the match 7 10 for his second state title in three years At the Utes wrestler Chris Walker Walk Walk- er who beat out Ed Romero in overtime overtime over over- time qualifying for the finals to meet Jon Bratt of Pleasant Grove This was the outstanding match of the night with Chris losing 5 54 LEE BU BURNS Sat at lost to M.
