L Wooley family of Lapoint Lapoint La La- point has been selected as Farm Family Fam ily fly of the Year for 1972 for Uintah and Daggett Counties by Farmers Home Ad ministration THIS ANNUAL award is given to a farm family working with Farmers Home Administration and showing excellent progress in their farming enterprise The appearance of the family's home and grounds quality of crops and livestock produced and participation of the family fam fam- ily fly members in community affairs are qualities considered in the evaluation for forthe forthe forthe the award The Wooley family rated exceptionally exceptionally ex high in all categories B Both th Mr and Mrs Wooley were born bornand bornand bornand and raised in the Lapoint area and settled set set- tied there after Mr Wooleys Wooley's release after af aft af- af ter serving four years in the United States military forces FARMERS HOME Administration helped Mr and Mrs Wooley buy their first livestock in 1945 and their first farm in 1947 in order to get started in inthe inthe inthe the dairy business Through better farming farm ing practices and hard work Mr Wooley has managed the farm in such a way that it has paid for itself and provided pro vided his family with a good living Neither Mr or Mrs Wooley have had to leave the farm to obtain off farm employment employment em em- to supplement their farm in come Mr Wooley states that he applies pounds of phosphate per acre when he plants new hay and then follows this with another pounds per pounds per acre each year ther thereafter after He feels he obtains a better than average yield per acre from this practice He also feels that timeliness timeliness time time- liness in milking and feeding his dairy cows is a very important practice in a dairy business His His' cows produce in ex ex- cess cogs of or pounds of milk per cow each year A GRADE A dairy barn was built in 1947 and was constructed to meet all specifications and requirements of the dairy companies at that time Very few changes over the years have been necessary necessary necessary sary in order to meet changing requirements requirements require require- ments of the diary companies MR WOOLEYS WOOLEY'S farm consists of acres of private property and acres of leased land He farms acres of cropland and irrigates acres of pas pas- ture Mrs Wooley has always kept the necessary essary records and handled the finances connected with the farm Mr Wooley states that he feels it is essential to keep good records and attributes the success of the family to his wife's financil fin fin- ancil management ability BOTH MR and Mrs Wooley have been active in community affairs in the Lapoint La La- point area Mr Wooley served as PresIdent President Pres Pres- ident of the Mosby Irrigation Company for four years He was also President of the recently installed Lapoint Culinary Water System for a period of three years It took two years to get the project started and it is felt by many of the resident in the area that without Mr Wooleys Wooley's s constant efforts a interest in th the project that it would not have been completed He then served for an aa two years on the Board of Directors Directors' for this company An active Lions Lion's Club functioned in this area from 1963 to 1968 Mr Wooley was prominent in getting this club organ organ- He served as President of the Lions Lion's Club for one year and also served on the Board of Directors MR WOOLEY has been active in his church and and has served in the Bishopric Bishopric Bishopric Bish Bish- of his ward and in MIA and Sunday Sunday Sunday Sun Sun- day School Mrs Wooley has served her church church-as Ras as a Teacher Trainer Secretary of the Primary Cultural Refinement leader leader lea lea- der in the Relief and in various other positions The Wooley family includes seven child child- ren Three of the daughters are now married married mar mar- ried and there are two boys and two girls still at home They have always been active in church activities athletics athletics ath ath- ath and H 4 Clubs The girls have taken an extra interest in music and have excelled in this area MR AND Mrs Wooley will now compete compete com com- pete with 16 other farm families selected for this honor from other counties by county offices for the State Farm Family of the Year Award The State winner will then compete in the selection of 8 a National winner selected by the National office Ralph C C.
