Show t. t r c t d dv dK K v t EFFIE POWELL dies dl In Vernal Effie Powell 84 interment in inVernal inVernal Vernal Effle Ertle Jane Powell 84 died in a Vernal Verna 1 nursing home October 12 SHE WAS born February 20 1889 in Jensen cep Uintah County to John Taylor and Ester Jane Jan e Hardy She married Alfred Heber Powell August 8 1906 In the Salt Lake Lak e IDS Temple He died February ry 23 1972 The oldest of 11 children Mrs Powell attended el elementary school In Jensen She was valedictorian of her when she graduated from the eighth grade She attended the Uintah Stake Academy the only only high high school In Vernal at that drat time and it w IS was here in 1905 that she became acquainted with Heber Powell ABOUT THE time they were married several leveral thousand acres of Indian R Reservation had been thrown open open for settlement by bythe the white people Mr Powell filed flied on a homestead about 60 miles mile west of 01 Vernal inthe in inthe the present town of 01 Bluebell Mrs Powell was was wal the first school teacher in hi Bluebell The school was was located ted in one of the two rooms of their log cabin After Ater a a school and meetinghouse meetinghouse meeting meetinghouse house were were built bunt Mrs Pow Powell ll boarded several of of the schoolteachers school schoolteachers schoolteachers schoolteachers' teachers teachers' durl during l the remainder of the time she a and her husband n lived there She also served midis to many many travelers from J humblest red men men that tha t roa roamed ed the country to the most important civic and church h officials They all aU found a warm welcome I Mrs Powell had a reputation for lor being a good cook and always shared with others THEY SOLD SOU their thelt home In Bluebell and moved back to toI I Vernal In 1915 They built a small house on on two acres aCre of 01 land which they purchased from Mr Powells Powell's father In Naples They lived there for about two years yean until they bought the farm larm and built their present home where Mr Powell lived until his death and Mrs Powell lived until two and one half months prior to her death Mrs Powell was baptized a member of the IDS Church on January 28 1899 In the Green River A hole was cut In the ice which was about a foot thick and a ladder was let down Into the icy water Since that time Mrs Powell has always been active In and very devoted to the church In Bluebell she was the first president and was a teacher in Sunday School Primary and Religion class SUE SHE WAS also ass assistant stant ward clerk during the time her husband was the ward clerk in Bluebell In Naples she was a counselor in MIA and Primary both at the same time She was also a teacher man many years in Sunday School Primary and Relief Society She served two Uintah Stake missions She was wasa a Relief Society visiting teacher for over 60 years She made her last visit in June Juno of this year She became ill III in July and spent a week in the hospital Since that time sh she has been unable to walk She was president of the Family Organization for many years and was v very ry interested in genealogical work She has been a member of the Camp Porter Merrell DUP since its beginning and served as as' as class leader for fora a number of years and captain 14 years SHE SUE WORKED for the Mutual Creamery Company for more than 20 years also was employed by Calder Brothers and and I the Uintah Uinta Dairy Association for some time Survivors are s sons sons' ns daughters Leon R R.
