were downgrading the current music teacher at the high school That letter did not strike me that way but rather than they the signers were not only lamenting the fact that the marching band was disappearing disappearing dis dis- dis appearing but also the fact that there was only one teacher to carry carryon on in the music department I understand that the enrollment at atthe atthe atthe the high school is and that there are arc coaches in the boys' boys athletic department there Ive I've heard it quoted that if there is a decadence in the quality of our culture in the USA part of it can be blamed onto the fact that the push is to get the public so wound up in athletics that they eat drink and sleep athletics at the exclusion of all else I am not against athletics I believe sports even do some jogging myself and I believe that those who do not stay physically active are the losers However if the above guage here is an indication of the trend in this school district that five coaches can be hired for boys' boys athletics and only one music teacher for the entire student body of I should think the school principal and school board would hide their heads in shame Mrs 1 ear Editor It seem the Concerned Citizens article of September 21 stating staling the inadequacy Inadequacy In In- adequacy of the School Districts District's Music program has been twisted by one of our good citizens citizen of Vernal to sound a as a n personal attack on our High School music instructor Mr Nick Randall This could not be farther from our Intentions intentions intentions in In- at al the time the article was writ written ten Our intentions were to draw to the attention attention at nt of oC the public the decline of or our music program in the School district 1 have had one of the best in the state to where it is now and ande we e eho who ho signed the statement of the Concerned citizens arc are very concern concern- ed If II the music program continues to decline in number in the future as it has in the past in a short time we yc will have no music program in our district Our students arc are dropping from our music program more and more each year car and ami what the Concerned Citizens Citizen's question is Why Not a personal attack attack at at- tack on anyone We think Mr 1 Randall does an excellent job with the choral and concert music I attended Ashley Stake Conference Sunday morning and enjoyed very much the choir provided by the Uintah High School They were very good but regardless whether Mr 1 May 1 considers marching Band Music 1 NOISE or not a good marching band bandis is an asset to any community After Arter talking to our Mr h Ashel Evans he lie assured us that they have known of the inadequacy of oC the music program and the ones involved ed are going to do all they can to see if they can find out why We would like to thank Mr 11 Wallis for fOI his Public Forum horum Column and for his patience in this but we think now that the place to discuss this thus further is in inthe inthe inthe the Music Departments Department's Organizational Organization Organization- al Meeting November 13 1972 at the Uintah High School We hope all aH concerned concerned concerned con con- can be there and maybe a solution solution solution tion to this problem can be discussed in the right way Signed Still A Concerned Citizen Sarah
