I remember living in the town of Hankinson North Dakota until I was 10 years old Then we moved to Fairmount North worth Dakota jUt just 15 miles away I visit visit- frequently but butI I must say that my native city has changed very little except that it has bas b become ome more beautiful and progressive than in the early era One no longer hears German spoken spoke In the stores nor on the streets It is not spoken by any of the young people There are no longer hitching posts along Main lain Street t. t and the lamplighter too Is gone but the character of the town remains I remember keeping a cow in town but a meadow was just across the street from our house and the country began just 2 blocks away My sister and I would clean lamp chimneys and trim the wi Yi ks Every Saturday we bathed d din In a tin tub in the kitchen two would use the same water It was th nand it is now a proud town During World War I we watched our soldiers marching down Main Street W We were all so sad when they left for France hl column to 0 Th TI Th Old Timor Jim Box hK 63 Frankfort Ky ICy |
