Show S Day By BV Diane S SAN N ANTONIO TEXAS We just returned from a trip to San Antonio Texas What a thrill that was for me I am surprised in retrospect how meaningful it was how touched I was Somehow I wasn't prepared to see the history of the Alamo in person In March 1836 the residents of Texas then thell a property of Mexico decided to too with the Mexican o vcr r r relations go gov gov- v- v eminent ment and the struggle for freedom freedoms s he Almo is a fort structure formed to yellow mello stone stolle Low buildings and covered walks form the square Protruding near the ceilings are worn worn beams which verify the age of the Alamo The chapel which was the last retreat for the men who fought for 11 days holding off the army of General General Gen Gen- eral Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna that numbered between and O Omell men mell had walls which were lined with small bronze plaques naming every everyman everyman everyman man who died died there for Texas A prominent national hero Davy Crockett Crockett Crockett Cro Cro- gathered a band of loyal men from Tennessee who had nothing to gain personally but knew the value of independence and wanted to help in in the fight Davy Crocketts Crockett's soft suede v vest st was on display It had been crafted by artistic Indians in a snug fitting manner manner manner man man- ner then beaded all over with tiny I seed beads in every vibrant making flowered designs Isis His knife in the well worn case and a lovely gold watch can be admired along with a p painting inting of himself and many letters written in his fancy scrawl Tears came easily as I realized they were willing to pay the ultimate price prica for people they would never see Their death to give birth to freedom for that territory of people Every person should make that journey journey journey jour jour- ney spend at least a day meditate and evaluate the meaningful message there |
