Show DEBAUCHERY ON THE SCREEN I The following letter to the editor appeared in a recent Issue of The Salt Lake Tribune by Joan C Andrew and reflects the views of many Ver Vernal ull people I realize that sex equals money at al the movies but lets let's at least keep the to previews In line with the main features Last night my fa family jy was subjected to approximately five minutes of the most ting Ling preview of a movie we have ever s sed d This preview was not shown at a hole In the wall movie house nor in connection with other salacious movies but at a major drive drive- In theater between a comedy and an adventure film films that would attract normal healthy adults and children This preview appealed to the most do de prayed debased and immoral aspects of the audience It was announced with obvious rel reI ish that state law prevented their showing the entire scenes In the preview but that in the movie the scenes would Indeed be complete At the last an announcement was made to the effect that those of use who lead dull wholesome lives should see this movie and witness the ultimate in sexual thrills I would like to quote verbatim but at that point I was numb with shock and memory falls fails me The assistant manager said ho he had not even se seen n the preview and that even if he dis approved he would have to show It since the theater is one of a chain and the thc movies are determined by the office in California I find It hard to believe that a self self-re- sp manager could inflict this trash pre view or complete film on a public without first trying to find an alternative show These film assignments orb arh not an act of God they could be revised If the management had enough moral courage and support from m the public I think its it's time t wake up to what to-what what our neighborhood theaters are showing our child ren and the emotionally immature adults of our community There Is crime in our streets and there Is uninhibited debauchery in our good theaters |
