Show Future of Little Gallery of o Arts Discussed at Meeting Tuesday At a meeting held Tuesday night at Hotel Vernal the fut fut- future fute ore ure of the Little Gallery of Arts was discussed Mary MaryE MaryE E Patterson president of the organization presented a com com- comprehensive report on the activities of the Gallery during the past four years The speaker told of the struggle to keep the gallery going and to raise the funds necessary to defray the expenses She mentioned the prestige Vernal has received ed from the publicity and favorable comments paid the Lit Lit- Littie tie tic Gallery by so many visitors and art critics NO COMMUNITY can grow economically without growing culturally said Mrs Patter son The Gallery of Arts was established for Uintah Basin rev re- residents and visitors It was born of a growing need in the area for an art center in East East- Eastern ern Utah UI Up to the present time all the work connected with the operation of the gallery has been by donated labor Principal sources of income are cash donations membership dues and class tuition It is hoped to obtain a grant from the government to be matched with funds raised loco be- beally ally It was estimated that a fund of per year would cover the expenses of the gal gal- gallery lery and employ a part time person for clerical work AT THE present time 30 to 35 paintings are kept on hand handSome handSome Some of these are on display at the County Library During the time that the Lit Lit- Littie tie tle Gallery has been open to the public it has attracted near near- nearly nearly ly six thousand visitors A total of 2013 were counted during the period 1631 during and 2310 during the past year The feeling at the meeting was that the art gallery should be continued and Lynne King vice president of the Vernal Chamber of Commerce will present the matter to the Chamber at its next meeting The Chamber will make a sur- sur survey survey vey of social organizations to obtain a united support for the galley |
