Show Adult Ed Therapy Enrollment Discussed The regular meeting of the Uintah School District Board of I Education was held at pm September 21 1966 with the following business transacted Mrs Rhoda DeVed Os 01 of oC Adult f Education duC t on made a report t on lasses classes note no being held in in the district She stated staled tat had registered for Ol classes and that Olat 16 new lilu sit kilts had registered for the a 11 dolt dult high school for credit re The classes being taught to these e people at this time are arc litera- litera turc and world history NINE CLASSES are arc being taught non credit to adults some of f these classes being shorthand ty type e modern math family mone money management and welding These classes were wera started on September 12 Similar classes will be offered on the west side sido of at the the county beginning the forepart of oC Octo br ber Miss Helen Stevens Speech and Hearing Th Therapist made a report on her assIgnment All students in the dIstrict will be tested fisted for hearIng bearing and speech d fi ier ci s The State will send out specialists In this field to help Miss lIss Stevens in the testing program Parents of these stu stu- stu students dents will be notified and en- en en to receive medical as MOST YOUNG people can reo re- receive aid if the impairment is found in their younger years Miss Stevens will work with those students who are found to have speech defects At the pre sent dent time students have b been en tested will be r retested tested for bearing and 76 have been found to have speech defects On a national average it has been found that 5 percent of the he young people have this type of defect It Is felt that much gOOd can be offered the stu- stu students d dents of oC the UIntah School Dis Dis- with thIs new service John Director of curriculum n reported on a meeting meeting he had attended reo re- regarding garding the ilie Medical Medica Self Help program This program can be bea bea a real asset to a c community in time of o disaster and aU all employ employ- employees Ies ees of h a school are are encouraged t to take this course MR BLAZZARD presented a alist list alst of names for teaching In the schools this year This list was by members of the board Mr Ph Philip Ems Ellis Director of Pupil l Personnel lOnnel presen presented ed a fInal attendance report for the school year showIng an enrollment of of at the end of October last year Our enrol ment at the present time shows a total number of 2425 ill In the elementary schools which Is less than the previous Octobers October's enrollment and an enrollment of oC 1816 in the secondary schools which is an in crease of 53 students Over this s time last year This makes an overall decrease of 58 students compared to one year ago Mr Hartman Mr Taylor and Mr Toone of the Welfare Department met with members of the board and explained how people may be helped to learn trad s or attend adult classes provided under Title Tille V this be- be being be ing an act by Congress to help those people become self sup sup- supT porting T f |
