Show Doctors Aid Welfare rho physicians of Utah have apparently been carrying the major part of the welfare burden of medi medical medial al expense of or at least they have been carrying mor morn than has been in indicated A recent survey conducted b by the Medical Assoc Assoc- Association Association shows that the physicians of Utah contributed about 5 million in in medical to their fellow citizens last year The Tho specific figures are th that t each contributed nn ant average of 1908 in free freo medical service This amounts to about 20 hours a an n month per pOl phys physician cinn or about 12 of the d doctors doctor's total working time This care was primarily for welfare cases although al- al although though there thero were church and private charity cases included These are significant inasmuch ns as the tho Welfare Department has been paying the tho doctors be- be between tween and per year which is rel- rel relatively relatively small in to free time given The physicians are ure not quibbling nor complain complain- complaining complaining ing n about out their part in the tho welfare program but they thoy do desire that the public ho bo informed of what they doing inasmuch as they are oro often criticized in regards to the welfare matter The doctors of Utah should bo be commended ed for their willingness to care for far the tho welfare patient oven even though they receive compensation for it only part of the time |
