Show Deer Hunters Prefer Fishing t By John Hewston In spite of a brief snowfall in the middle of the month Oct October ober brought nicer weather to t o Flaming Gorge Recreation n Area in a lump sum than did d nd the summer months And visitors tors took advantage of this to t pursue a variety of activities EARLY EARL Y IN the month the th e top activity was fIshing as a s usual But other water sports were high on the list with many visiting parties going boating water skiing and even a few swimming and sun bathing Sightseeing Sight picnicking and camping also were important activities Photography always seems to be important to alar a lar- lar large ge percentage of visitors too Alter me mia snowS snow fall water sports took n a back back- backseat seat to deer hunting camping and sight seeing However it was surprising to see how many deer hunters brought along their fishing tackle and took the time to fish between attempts at finding that old with the big rack of antlers With deer hunting on the utah side being a bit slower than usual most of the hunting par par par- parties ties went fishing One lodge operator was heard to state that he could have rented all the fishing he could get if he had known there was go- go go ing going to be such a demand among hunters who forgot their tackle at home THIS FALL marked the third deer season in which the reser reser- reser reservoir voir has been filling Thus for forI forthe I the third year several parties of deer getto hunters used boats to get to way the places and to combine hunting and fishing ex ex- ex excursions Not many were sue suc- suc successful in getting a deer that way but a few boats were seen comin coming in to the Cedar Springs ramp with limits of trout and anda a deer across the bow During the entire deer season days were warm and sunny the lake calm and the nights cool and Some hardy deer hunters actually were obserVe observed ed swimming in the reservoir reservoir- stating that the water was in but that they sure needed the bath With the end of hunting for forI I this year upon us and the corn com coming corning ing of winter not far away act acts at Flaming Gorge Re Re- Reservoir have settle down to fish ing its it's still good but slower than a month ago sight seeing and boating on nice weekends and by a handful of local people during the week Many habitual visitors are looking forward to the coming ice fishing and snow seasons for continued sport I |
