Show Mock Air Crash Thrills Explorers was high Satur Satur- Saturday day afternoon as local explorers participated in a rescue from a amock amock mock airplane crash on the Dia- Dia Diamond Diamond mond Mountain Road Rond THIS nus COLORFUL adventure started several months ago when Jay Larsen Explorer Commis- Commis Commissioner Commissioner and Bert Dannenberg District Scout Executive met with the Explorer Cabinet and outlined the plan of a Ready Day program Immediately Uintah District Cabinet officers John Kindt Bryan Purdie and Leland Got Got- Gotfredson fredson took hold of it and start start- started ed planning the program which took place Saturday Saturday morning explorers from all parts of the Uintah District began arriving at Vcr Ver nal National Guard Armory for forthe forthe the Ready Heady Day training pro gram Explorers from Vernal Maeser Tridell and also Roos Hoos evelt arrived by 9 am and started participating in the phy phy- phy physical fitness They hall had to meet standards in five tests given by Coach Bill Caldwell EXPLORERS moved into three different class sessions Trooper Ronald Wilson utah Highway Patrol conducted ses stops in emergency rescue first aid to prepare the explorers to move into an emergency and give proper first aid prior to transporting injured for medical attention Explorers next moved into a alively alively lively session on family preparedness preparedness edness and emergency living un der er the direction of Burnell hews Haws District health and I Safety Chairman and Director of Uintah County Civil Defense Next the importance of mobil mobil- mobilization and communications was shown by Bert Dannenberg and the use and types of communication cation equipment were demon demon- demonstrated CECIL MASSEY Command Commander I Ier er of the Uintah County Sheriff I Posse with Coke Jeffries and Les Thacker conducted a sess- sess Continued on page 5 TROOPER RONALD WilSON right of Utah Highway Patrol teaches emergency first aid at an explorer Ready Day pro pre gram Saturday at the armory The victim Is Gawin Horrocks Other r students are Ronnie Reynolds and Jerry Goodrich rear and Ray front Staff phot photo lock l Air Continued from page 1 Ion on rescue methods During the final fin l training sess- sess session session ion a report of a simulated air air crash was given to the group by Pilot Bob Johnston oT 01 Moon Lake Electric Company Explorers Explorers ers heard the report come to John Howarth by radio Explorers were then mobilized mobilized ed and led to the site on the Diamond Mountain 1 road by members of the Jeep Posse Mr Howarth received instructions from the airplane and messages would be relayed by members with Jeep posse radio Explorers hiked into the area and rescued the four injured p persons who were prepared with realistic injuries by Burnell Haws and Jay Larsen After the victims were given first aid they were transported back to the main road and placed in the ambulance under the direction of Frank Judd AFTER THE excitement was over explorers analyzed the mistakes they made in the res res- res rescue cue operation Explorers will return to their posts and complete the training sessions and conduct a mobil mobil- mobilization mobilization and two preparedness activities within the po post t before applying for the Ready certificates for each Explorer and the Ready citation for each explorer post with 60 percent of its members qualified for Several posts are now planning ing to set up more training in first aid and communications and to prepare equipment to use usein usein in future events The next explorer cabinet meeting will be held Tuesday January 26 at 8 pm at the county building Mr Larsen reo re quests that all Cabinet Representatives and Advisors be pre present sent to discuss the next big Explorer Event |
