Show present day problems HIGHWAYS THROUGH TONS by 0 D B BARTLE rrT it Is good public policy and Is also the universal practice to build a highway thru cities towns and rvin small business centers an ex ample of this la Is the expense in cuned in building US 40 through vernal instead of along alon the south ern edge of ashley valley this policy Js amply justified for the heaviest traffic on these theme highways Is always on that part which lies within the towns we have never seen this policy disregarded and dear reader have lou ou it has always bixen the most definitely settled of all questions that the main road must pass thru the town we W call attention to tah tec fee be bc otimae road construction now about to be out leaves our two tow towa A I and LH rA point rather I 1 out in the cold I 1 by a margin of several miles to make the matter plain we refer to the two to GWA projects of 1932 33 one was the roid from lapoint following deep creek to moaby mountain forest road the other from 71 ridell up the turkey trail to the junction with the lapoint project at little water gap these roads were carried well along toward completion they were ethely planned and serve the people well even in their present condition and will continue to bo be used extensively after sev eral cral thousand dollars have brn been spent on the red narrows because they are the direct roads to coal and timber the county commissioners have apparently decided to abandon both these them projects and leave leae them permanently permanent lv unfinished and also to leave both lalmant and aridell tridell off the direct lines of north and south incidentally the people of the ashley valley have a direct interest in the road up deep creek to mosby mountain for they use it a treat great deal while the citizens of bennett nen nett ballard alteria and use the turkey trail almost constantly there ti no valid reason why these two vita roads should be abandoned while they are so 0 o badly needed and so little 14 required to complete them there is no reason w hy our tow towns ns should be left oft off the main north and south highway |
