Show dinosaur 9 road urged for top fop priority slate A joaq roa into the dinosaur national has lias been class clas ifield arno among jig top priority rity work iad for a number of projects hv sen sell wallace Wil laco F I 1 bonnett bennett R utah it in a special release from S sen ell bennetts Uen office wednesday s specific projects planned for dinosaur national monument were listed lions share dinosaur is scheduled to re chive the largest appropriation out of the total of 10 16 3 million allocated to the ten national parks and monuments in utah the senator pointed out that the reason for the large ap for dinosaur is that area will be starting from scratch and will involve build ing roads through sow barly rugged terrain the improvements are part of mission 66 a plan drawn up by the national park service in 1955 to combat many rapidly deteriorating features of nation al at parks dinosaur projects projects for dinosaur include a visitor ue center and arid museum at the dinosaur quarry kveum ample in pie parking facilities will be pro continued on page 8 D dinosaur i ii r road continued from page 1 vided aided ind and other visitor cen centers aiters will be constructed at tin th major development areas 2 facilities for food lodging and other visitor needs at the area are to be provided in nearby communities or at places outside of 0 the area certain types of concession facilities tor for visitor needs will be planned for the canyon section of the monument when surveys and plans have become more firm end and a definite need for such facilities has been demonstrated 3 interpretive facilities r signs 1 I agns gns markers and exhibits are to be included in the construction of parking overlooks trails campgrounds and nt at selected places along the loads leads 4 the circulation system for jho lio area contemplates access roads improvement or selected portions of existing roads and trails and d additional nev roads and trails to cc catain tain of the more significant scenic sp spots 0 t 3 location of proposed new I 1 roads 0 ad 3 will b be determined after reconnaissance purveys have been completed it Is Is expected that the bureau of lublic roads will get started on the surveys in the near future 5 additional campgrounds ind nd improvements to existing will be provided along with boating facilities launching ramps 6 A study will be made of hie the present boundaries of the area to determine what adjustments or revisions arc are needed lo 10 0 o facilitate the public use and goals of mission 66 7 utility and residential structures are ate planned to meet bublic use maintenance and pro edtion tc tion requirements 8 assignment of staff sufficient nt to meet protective interpret ive and maintenance needs pending completion of more detailed surveys and firm development plans covering tho the 10 year period the total expenditure for this area is estimated at approximately appi tor for roads and trails and for buildings and utilities approval sen sell bennett emphasized that lie the mission 66 program is still only a te tentative nta tive proposal and still must be enacted into law by the congress 1 I am pleased to have been able to work with director wirth and other national park officials on many of the specific developments planned for utah some of which are already included in this years interior department appropriation bill sen bennett said in his speech on the senate floor 1 I am in general accord with and heartily endorse the overall program for utah although some specific items may have to be modified 1 I know the people of utah and the people of the entire raa nation will join me in urging con gress ress tr to support the vision of 0 the carefully planned and ably conceived mission 66 program so hat our neglected national parks and monuments will be a source of national pride in 1966 the tile anniversary of the na lional park service J arben jolley and his son kirk left vernal saturday for detroit where mr jolley will ake delivery on a new station ambulance they took he bus to denver where they met net mr colleys Jol leys brother william C and his son val the two families 11 es took the train to chi chicago chingo ngo ind from there will go to de they plan to visit hurch historical sites and will 10 0 o to farmington N M to ake william and val home hc arben and kirk are expected home sunday mr jolley honed honch his wife from independence lence mo me wednesday |
