Show jj W 0 hober bannion jr former form er daggett man seeks governor post heber bennion Benn Bein nion lon jr secretary of tate announced recently that ha he would be a candidate for ie nomination for governor on the ti ticket c et he it w only democrat that has announced he will oppose gov J bracken lee in what hat is expected to be a hectic fall election should he be elected belted the job of being governor will be nothing new to mr bennion Benn lon he has served in that capacity for some days since 1947 during the absence from the state of the governor while widle he Is a strong b believer ellever in economy and has scored a great record of economy in the operation of his office and other posts that he has held the tho secretary of state has never been ac aused of being penny wise and pound foolish he ile has benn been active in political circles since 1919 when he was elected as the first representative n to the legislature from daggett county following the organization of that coatny later he served as funty clerk and commissioner of daggett be fore returning to the legisla legislature turp in 1933 for four terms he ile waa wax elected speaker of the th house in 1939 although he operates an extensive stock rain business sint the me secretary of state has as aduca tion cloe close to his heart as a result of his early connections with school life in utah county where he served as principal of the high school and later loiter as ch carrman aman of the school board in daggett ho ile T is at the present time a member of the board of regents ot of the university of utah and the board of trustees of the utah sarte agriculture college at loan in addition to these tasks and his hi own lob job as secretary of state mr dennion serves as a member of the state board of state library board loan commissioner board and the nemory board mr bennion served as secretary of state since 1947 it was in april L r ll 11 of the year that he was i appointed n t ed to fill a vacancy created by the death of the late dr E E monson in 1948 he ran for and was elected to his first full term as secretary of state |
