Show early construction federal building Urge dby public tho the following letter was sent to congressman don D colton by secretary A 13 thomas of 0 the chamber of Vom commerce merce as the result of the maea mass meeting concerning federal building vernal utah feb let 1924 honorable don B colton house ofa at representatives washington D C dear mr colton mr sander has asked mo to add a few lines in explanation of tho the situation hero here r regarding 0 the proposed federal building the proposition of building a federal building with the funds available was presented to the city council and tho the board of directors of tho the chamber of commerce the members of these two organizations thought it best beat to call a public mass meeting for the deciding of this question the meeting was well viell advertised verti sed but was poorly attended those who attended the meeting were about evenly divided halt half of at them desiring to wait until more funds could be obtained and halt wanting a Aull building ding at once regard lessof less of size or appearance it was finally decided at this meeting how ever to leave this matter up to the board of at directors ot at the chamber of commerce thia this body of men not caring to carry the responsibility alone called the city council to help them decide this matter the result of that meeting Is the letter which you find herein enclosed since discussing this proposition at these two meetings information has been scattered around generally and the public have become thoroughly aroused there Is no doubt but what by far the greater majority of at the people here want this building built just as soon as possible with the funds now available provided no more can be secured true most of them know nothing of ot the plans of the proposed ro posed building nor what size of a building that the present appropriation will build nevertheless they demand the building and there ie Is nothing else for us to do or tor for you to do either but to bend bond our efforts in getting this building under way just as jooa as possible youra for service A B THOMAS secretary |
