sea sons work has been characterized by an atmosphere all it if awni but from the larger view it ho has a afi fit arin in as ono one of tho the many successful years of tho the institution tho the school opened sept 22 with a faculty or seven members mom born the registration of students etu dents was heavy from the start in fact heavier than any tiny previous year and it continued heavy during tho the entire season reaching a it total of students etu dents divided as follows first year students etu dente second year 49 third year 2 27 fourth year 18 special 24 total of the regular students girls and 74 hoys boys the faculty has worked an a unit and has been united in all things pertaining to the welfare of the school the student body activities have been somewhat interfered with this season not however because of any lack of enthusiasm on part vart but because of the influenza epidemic the epidemic emle came just at the close of the basket ball season sean and prevented the contests in that activity from being played to a finish before the epidemic subsided the basket ball season had bad passed and hence the final games were not played our boys were weye however in the lead and had the influenza not prevented victory would have tin undoubtedly been ours the contests in debating public speaking etc ate were scheduled for the wee weeks ka which were interfered with by influenza and because of conflicting appointments a have been unable to carry on these activities we alq o 0 especially proud of the stand taken by the academy boys thia this reason on the tobacco question so tar far as we know this season is the first time in the history of the school that the bos boa have been per cent clean of tobacco we are am especially proud of the resolution passed by them and seconded by the girls on this question I 1 shall let the reso lution speak for itself by reading a of it As students of the uintah academy we are per cent behind the movement for the ellmina tion of the tobacco evil we desire destri to to live clean honest lives and be free of or all habits that will tend to hinder our de development deVelop we are equally proud of the action taken by our students on the dance problem some few weeks ago coach eugene L roberts of the B Y 13 was with us and talked to our students on the proper form in dancing he also gave a special lecture to the boys on the responsibility of leadership he visited one of our dances and in a council meeting after suggested wherein our dancing might be improved improve df A meeting of the students was called the boys and girls meeting separately and the suggestions placed before them the girls passed a resolution without one opposition vote to the effect that they desired to adopt the suggestions in full to eliminate the alsey boy hold and all other objectionable forms of dan dancing ing some ten or eleven of the boys voted against the move but the great majority were strongly behind the suggestions and after the matter had been passed a number of the opposing boys stated to tte me that they in true american style accept the majority vote and intended to ed the majority and intended to live lire up to the suggestions the domestic science department under the direction of miss bliss jennie taylor has been serving not bot lunches to the students this season the undertaking der taking has proven suc uc wo we feel to warrant the continuance ti nuance of the same because of our inland location we alre are unable to bring our students in touch with the outer world by means of tho the loeum cour courses avd but this sou son we have been very fortunate in staging at our school some eighteen of the best lec lectures lures that have entered our basin the chautauqua lecturers that th at visited venial vernal all appeared from this platform in the recent educational drive we were favored with the appearance pe arance of nil all speakers before our student body and as dr perry G holden expressed it they gave to the uintah academy students their biggest est message the work of the department of oral ei expression under miss fern vern broadbent and the music department under norman olson has been presented to the public the oral expression department presented last december three one ond act plays which were a credit to the work of odthe the dopart department part ment just a fd few w weeks ago the music students presented the opera miss bliss cherry blossom and we are very proud indeed of their work there are ho however keer other depart I 1 meets meats in tho school which could were it possible to place then them before the foot lights make a very creditable I 1 3 showing h D wing the music and oral ex pros crosslon slon departments are we a feel doing very effective work as are the other departments i the science work under A theo johnson has been very successfully handled as has the department of agriculture under jacob N cyb berts the mathematics under prof H and the domestic work under miss bliss taylor the work of these teachers rii cannot be placed upon the stage stager but lt atias has 1 1 been effective and rU flam 1 J a m sure bring forth results in the m alve pt ofir young people t year has revealed to us ot of a closer working relationship tion ship between the school and the community between tha parents ana the teachers we hope next season that closer relationship may be developed we W need your help ami and support the greatest need revealed by this seasons word borc Is that of a gymnasium or some place enero ane excessive energy oc of
