Show A E CARLTON SAYS COLORADO MIDLAND TO BE REBUILT SOON grand junction sentinel A E carlton president and principal owner ot of the colorado midland while in delta a few days ago with a view to establishing a sugar factory there stated that the management of the midland has no intentions of junking the road at this time but that instead they are considering si the rebul rebuilding luing of their line to reach into the delta and montrose districts mr air carlton stated elated that surveys are to be made mada from leadville to carbondale and from there across the barge to somerset and down the north fork valley this work to b be 0 started as soon as engineers and surveying parties can be placed on the ground this route would be shorter than the present route by over 90 miles according to mr tarlton garlton and would tap a rich country that Is now greatly handicapped by having narrow gauge lines mr bir carlton appeared certain that the project as outlined would be put through and that the colorado midland would again be made a great factor towards the further prosperity of the western vestern slope it has been announced announce d here that former midland employees have been advised to hold on for a short time as the road would again be operated the trip of 0 inspection over the midland route made last week by mr air carlton and officials of other roads also indicates that there la in some move on foot for the rehabilitation of the road while the party was at leadville a meeting was held there by the chamber ot commerce of that city and the statement was made by the railroad men that the midland would again be operated and that they had arranged tor for excellent connecting lines to the east from colorado springs some see in the present plan of utah capitalists to build a railroad into the uintah basin this year a plan to couple up the midland over the continental divide with this road thus giving another transcontinental tin road and a route much shorter than those now competing for the east cast and west through traffic I 1 ic |
