Show farmers institute editor express mention was made in the last issue of the express of the probability of a farmers institute being held in this county in the near future in addition to the letter from prof merrell published last week at ilon hon john N davis and geo A have received similar replies to inquiries made regarding the chances for an institute being held here the latter of which stated that they would be very pleased to hold an institute with us some time in april and desired to be further informed regarding the line of work we wished taken up pursuant to the request an outline of subjects has been prepared and forwarded now there may be some aoma who are not familiar with the nature and object of the farmers institute so that it may be thoroughly understood the farat section of the law providing for tho the same is 13 here repeated be it enacted by the legislature of the state of utah section 1 the trustees of the agricultural college of utah with tho the advice of the faculty of sai said ld college are hereby authorized authorize dand and required require cito to hold institutes for the instruction of the citizens of this thia state in the various branches of agriculture such institutes shall be held at least one in each county each school year beginning july 1 1896 and at such times and such places as the trustees and faculty may direct and they shall make such each rules and ana regulations as they may deem proper for organizing and conducting such buch institutes utes and may employ an agent or agents to perform such work in connection with the faculty of the college as they may deem best the course of instruction at such institutes shall be so arranged as aa to present to those in attendance the results of the most recent investigations in theoretical and practical sec 2 provides that they shall ahall assist in organizing local agricultural societies see sec 3 provides for the publishing in pamphlet form the pro breedings cre edinga edings of each institute and sec 4 appropriates fifteen hundred dollars to defray the expense of such institutes approved march 28 1896 you will observe from the above that this law went into effect almost twelve years ago yet we have not so much as asked heretofore here to fore to be granted any of the benefits intended to be from its passage of course in justice we could not expect as frequent visits hero here as the tha counties which are favored with railroads it is useless however to talk now of what we might have had or of what we have lost but what is up for our LOn consideration now is what we are going to get and how to make the most of it the matter has been laid before the county commissioners and they have expressed a willingness to appoint a committee to make further arrangements the agricultural conditions of this county are such at present that a well attended farmers institute sti tute properly conducted will bo be worth thousands of dollars to the farmers it is to be hoped that the undertaking can be successfully carried out A few items on the benefits derived from institutes may be given in next issue GEO A |
