Show UINTAH GRAZING LANDS supervisor pock pack of forest reserve discusses question of outside sheep and plans for agreeable arrangements W I 1 pack supervisor of the uintah forest reserve with headquarters at provo has haa been in vernal this week transacting business in connection with his hia boffl ofhie ice mr M pack says the grazing conditions are getting better each year and he expects to see sea more improvements right along so far this year there have been no forest fires which have been so eo distractive in the past every precaution has been taken to prevent them Sheep men and cattlemen are more calef careful ua than before there are now about sheep and lambs on the reserve of which are in uintah county the farmers of uintah county are protesting against the actions of the government officials in permitting sheep men from other counties to invade this territory to the hurt of local men who pay taxes and who they think should receive first consideration mr pack in reply to a ii question as to why such proceed ure is 13 allowed said it is not our intention to work any hardships on the uintah county farm era only about 2000 outside sheep have been in here this summer cummer if we can reach an agreement with the sheep men of this akis county regarding their needs as to acreage etc we will be perfectly willing that they may have preference in stocking the ranges in discussing the question of the state controlling the public lands rather than the government mr pack said he does not think the plan is a feasible one as ag tho the states are not prepared as aa well to handle such a gigantic and difficult proposition as is the government when the question comes before congress next winter the west will be divided on it but it is the opinion of mr air pack that utah will not be in favor of state control |
