GOING ON VACATION Even though you're away on vacation, vaca-tion, your home may be using a lot of energy. Most water heaters are automatic and keep operating while you are gone. A refrigerator can use more energy in a hot, locked-up house; so can a freezer. To keep down electric bills and save energy, here are some vacation suggestions. sug-gestions. Use this checklist: Switch off your ELECTRIC water heater. Turn your heater or air conditioner condi-tioner thermostat all the way down to the "off" position. Turn your waterbed heater to "off." Unplug your TV set(s). An "instant "ins-tant on" television set uses electricity electrici-ty even when the set is not turn on for viewing. Check all faucets to make sure they are turned completely off. Replace worn washers to prevent leaks. Use up perishables in the refrigerator. Just before leaving, turn the control to "off." Clean out the unit, put an open box of baking soda inside and prop the door open. Set up time clocks to turn on appropriate ap-propriate lights and radio at night to make the house seem occupied.
