Show All brh 3B?d no bifle By Steven Wallis Express News Editor "Aren't you the guy who USED to take the pictures of the homeless dogs at the dog pound?" Well? Questions like these spur thousands of guilt feelings and spontaneous ducking duck-ing of the head motions. But actually there is a good explanation. After months of trailing down the Uintah County Animal Shelter, posing dogs and cats in front of my camera with the hopes that some benevolent person would adopt the animal rather than having it "put to sleep," I decided decid-ed to try the program myself. I picked out a cute little cocker spaniel puppy which looked like he had been well cared for and was unjustly sentenced to death row at the animal shelter. I bailed the dog out and happily hap-pily took him home to my wife who wasn't quite as thrilled, but still she didn't vocally complain. After several months of getting acquainted ac-quainted with the dog and letting him become familiar with his new home, I decided to take the dog on a little excursion. As most of my excursions are, it was to take a picture of some new development develop-ment or some other news item. The dog willingly got into the truck and we were on our way. Today it was to the , sewer lagoons. ,' Heading up 500 No. the dog seemed - to be enjoying the ride with his head '. out the window standing on his hind : legs on the seat of the truck. Travel- ing about 40 mph, the dog jumped out of the window and started running in the opposite direction of the truck. Immediately Im-mediately I stopped the truck, turned it around and pursued the cute dog which I now was calling "a cute little mutt" for half a mile. Finally after a foot race which ended in a flying tackle, I caught the dog and put him back through the window where he escaped. I rolled up the window and again began driving toward the sewer lagoons. After about a mile the cab of the truck was filled with the aromatic smell which cattle trucks are noted for. Looking on the seat of the pickup I found the source of the stench neatly neat-ly deposited on the seat where my wife usually sits. Abruptly the truck came to a stop and the dog went out the same window as before, but not by his own choice. To say the least, the sight on the seat made the sewer lagoons a welcome site. The dog traveled in the back of the pickup until we got there. At the site, the now "mangy hound" jumped from the truck and got underneath the vehicle where he stayed while I took my pictures. When it was time to go the hound refused to come out from under the truck. I tried everything from my best female dog imitation to using the tire chains. Finally I drove off, at the risk of hitting hit-ting the dog. The dog followed the truck for half a mile before he was pretty tired , and I was able to stop the truck and capture him. Needless to say, I want the blame for other people to gain such patience by putting any more pictures in the paper of a dog up for adoption. So, why is there a picture in this week's Express.
