Vicki is not class clown, nor is she the life of every party. par-ty. Mrs. Fowler said Vicki was quiet and shy as a child. To meet Vicki today to-day you would think those traits have not changed dramatically even though she is part of the school elite. Perhaps this speaks more for Vicki than any other trait. To be a bit shy and reserved, and yet stand out in a crowd is a feat few can pull off. Vicki can, and does. So what does a student do to become "Outstanding Student?" Probably the most necessary element is sincerity and dedication, for there is much more to this award than just academic status. A person must be well liked, by both students and teachers. Being elected to an office by fellow students would help. Sports bring a person a lot of recognition. A person would help themselves immensely by being involved in-volved in sports. While academics is not the only important element in an "Outstanding Student" it would be wise to be an Honor Student, and maintain main-tain a grade point average of about 3.9. Being a member of the National Junior Honor Societv wouldn't hurt. Representing the high school as a Sterling Scholar Candidate is an absolute ab-solute must. You should definitely win all kinds of school awards, all the way from Junior High School. A person should have musical talent, be active in her church, attend Girls State, and definitely be listed in Who's Who in America's High Schools. But even if a person was to do all these things, it still probably wouldn't be enough. A person would need to do something above and beyond the call of duty, like be on a yearbook scaff that won the national award for exellence, and the following year be the editor of the yearbook to carry on the tradition you helped to push along the year before. Now, if you've done all these things and many more too numerous to mention here, you may have a chance to be selected above all other students, as "Outstanding Student." Of course, Vicki Fowler has done all these things. Even though Vicki may be a little reserved, she is not soft spoken. She savs she iust doesn't think it necessarv to mane a show about everything one does. She is only satisfied with second place when she truly believes that is the best she can do. She is hurt when people degrade the high school, because she believes this Senior Class has done more towards improving the high school than has been done in the past. Although she admits there are problems with Uintah High School, she believes those problems are being caused by a very few individuals. True to her nature, Vicki does not identify this problem without offering at least a partial solution. She believes the state law requiring mandatory education educa-tion until age 18 should be dropped to age 16. This, she said, would not just get rid of a few students who shouldn't be there anyway, but it would also make some of the others think about what they're doing. This would create a better situation for everyone. Vicki received the Elks scholarship this year. She plans to attend Weber State College where she will study radiology. She sees hereself single for a few years, but not too long. r ' i I ' - ! i ! I VICKI FOWLER |
