Bastian thought the Vernal team was going to go to first base for the out, but Young's Paint had different ideas and Bastian was tagged out between second and third. Young's Pcainf EtnocEis ovv Ned, 112-1 8, tfo ddlvance info chdimpionship gconrae The game to decide which team would become the first to advance into the championship game in the UBIC Men's Softball Tournament was tied up at 6 6 and Young's Paint used a five run fifth inning to ride its way into the title game due to a 12-10 triumph over Neola Saturday. Danny Long garnered a double in the top of fifth inning and Bert Clark was walked. Carlos Reed singled to drive in Long with the go ahead run at 7-6. Kevin llubcr singled to knock in Clark with an 8 6 lead and Dennis Day sent home Heed due to a single. The bases were filled up when Rick Morton connected for a single. An 11 to 6 advantage was acquired by Young's Paint when Huber and Day scored on a fielder's choice by Preston Miller. Morton Mor-ton was forced out at second base and Miller reached first base when the throw to the bag arrived late. Miller was tagged for the second out and Bill Wilson flied out for the second out. Neola scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the Paint crew's lead to three runs. Shane Gardner Gard-ner singled and moved to third bases on an error. Gaylon Yack netted an inside the park homer on a single and a number of errors to make the score 11 to 8 in favor of Young's Paint. Young's Paint scored one run in the top of the seventh inning and grabbed a lead of 12-8. Huber singled and Dennis Day was walked. Morton advanced Huber to third base due to a sacrifice fly and another sacrifice fly by Preston Miller scored Huber. Neola had its back against the wall going into the bottom of the seventh inning inn-ing as they were behind by four runs, but they refused to call it quits. Kent Olsen singled and a double by Marion Malnar placed Olsen on third base. A sacrifice fly by Gardner scored Olsen and a double by Yack scored Malnar and cut the Young lead to two runs at 12-10. Jeff Horrocks flied out and Kent Bastian hit a shot back to the pitcher to make the final score: Young's Paint, 12 and Neola, 10. Neola placed third and was knocked out of the tournament due to a 10-5 loss to Young's Construction. Young's Paint leaped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Bill Wilson and Monty Lee scored to give the Vernal Ver-nal crew a 2-0 lead. Clark scored run number three on an error and Reed gained a double on an error. Reed scored on a single by Morton. Neola scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning to tie up the game at 4-4. Kyle Dye and Olsen singled. Dye moved to third base on a wild throw and Malner singled to drive in Dye and Olsen. Gardner and Yack singled to load up the bases. Jeff Horrocks delivered a sacrifice fly and Malnar scored to cut the Young lead to one run at 4-3. Kent Bastian drove in Gardner with a single to tie up the game at 4-4. Two runs were scored by Young's Paint for a 6-4 advantage. Clark netted a double when his base hit darted bet ween an infielder's legs. Huber singled to drive in Clark with a 5-4 lead. Day singled and Morton doubled to send home Huber with a 6-4 advantage. Neola scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to tie up the game at 6-6. Malnar doubled and Yack reached first base on a fielder's choice. Malnar was tagged out at third base. Horrocks netted a double and moved to third base on an error. Yack crossed home plate on the error. An error put Kim Bastian on the base paths and Hor--rocks scored to tie up the game at 6-6, but Young's Paint went on to win the game by the score of 12-10. Utex downed the Tribe team in the first round and Nations knocked off Tosco. Neola beat Duchesne 22-0 and Frontier Grill nipped the Moonshiners. Young's Construction defeated Utex and Young's Paint toppled the Nations team. Neola downed Palmer's and the Bailers downed Frontier Grill, 11-10. Young's Paint toppled Young's Construction Con-struction and Neola defeated the Bailers. Utex downed Duchesne in the consolation bracket. The Moonshiners, Palmers and Frontier Grill won consolation con-solation games. Utex downed the Moonshiners Moon-shiners and Palmers downed Frontier Grill. The Bailers beat Utex and Young's Construction toppled Palmers. Young's Construction downed the Bailers, 12-10. Mt' t . " " ' . ....
