Show Flag thefts Dear Editor: We have always had a great pride for the United States and our citizenship. Along with that pride, we have a deep respect for our flag which represents the ideals and freedoms that only a country as ours could possess. To inspire ourselves and attempt to share our patriotism with the people of the Uintah Basin and those with whom we do business, we erected American flags at our shops. We were impressed by the initial reaction from the community com-munity by receiving numerous letters and positive comments concerning the flags. Unfortunately, we were thrust back into cold reality from having a wonderful idealistic notion that all Americans share the same attitudes of patriotism we enjoy, to realizing some are apathetic toward patriotism and have made a mockery of this great country. Approximately six weeks ago the flag that was flying at our Roosevelt location loca-tion was stolen. At the time, we thought this may be the result of misguided vandals. van-dals. Of course, the loss was not only ours, which was apparent by many questioning calls and statements from people wondering what had happened to the flag. Naturally, we replaced the stolen flag with a new one only to have it also stolen on July 28th. Then on August 5th, a ladies' voice, or should we say a female's voice came over our nrivate radio freouenev. Not onlv was i 1 - - - this person breaking the law again, but she was also singing her sarcastic version ver-sion of "The Star Spangled Banner." Obviously this was a rude prank by her implications and her manner of singing ( if the face matches the voice, she must have a motive for venting her frustrations frustra-tions anonymously). No, this was not a group of vandals, but some unconscionable uncons-cionable and spiteful parasites. Hopefully this stealing and malicious gloating will not persist and these people peo-ple w ill make an effort to deal with their problems constructively. If they think, or even have the facilities to think, that another flag will not be posted in Roosevelt they are mistaken. No people, peo-ple, regardless of their vindicative motives, w;ill change our purpose and resolution in posting the colors. Sincerelv. DUA.e"a.D MERLENE HALL Duane Hall Trucking, Inc. |
