Show Preview of fishing By Bill Kan-Good Kan-Good news for those of you planning on an opening day in the eastern end of the Uinta's. The streams are in good - shape and barring any major storms between now and the opener, stream fishermen should find the creeks flowing into the Flaming Gorge Reservoir fishable. Sheep Creek is flowing high but clear, and it should produce good fishing for those after stream-run rainbows. Browne Creek is also high at present, but it is clear ahd definately fishable for those of you alter tne small pan-sized brookies in the main stream this past week, and you'll even find them in the small channels flowing into Browne Creek from the surrounding meadows. With the amount of run-off this time of year there are numerous rivelets wending through meadows, and these are seasonal cafeterias for small stream trout. Do remember, though, that - a small stream has a fragile ecosystem, and overfishing can completely destroy it for years to come. Carter Creek is very high and roily below the convergence of Deep Creek, but above that point the stream is clear and fishable. Browne Lake itself is in good shape and should kick out its share of rainbows and brookies, although the pure strain cutthroats once found in that lake are hard to come by, if not entirely diluted. Sheepcreek Lake is open and also should have good early season fishing. The road into both lakes is terribly pot-holed, and you should allow yourself plenty of time to make the trip in. |
