Show Women On Wheels PLAYING IT COOL Many women perform their own car maintenance jobs to save time and money, but it can be a big mistake to try to save on coolant. Water once filled car radiators, ra-diators, but today's engines require a coolant that reduces re-duces their higher operating temperatures, and the heat generated by such extra operations as air conditioners, condition-ers, anti-pollution devices and automatic transmissions. During the summer especially, es-pecially, a car's temperature may rise due to larger loads. When you pull a boat trailer, mobile home, motorcycle, trailer rig, bicycle or van luggage rack, for instance, you can expect the engine to work harder and grow hotter. To keep your cooling system functioning efficiently, efficient-ly, experts suggest flushing out the old coolant and refilling re-filling the system with a fresh 5050 mixture of "Prestone II" Anti-Freeze Coolant and water. This should protect your engine between -34 degrees F. and a high of 265 degrees F. A flushing kit, the "Prestone II" Flush N Fill Kit, allows you to reverse flush your entire cooling system. Another cooling tip: Shift into neutral when you hit traffic snarls. This will unload the engine. Then, rev the motor to increase pump cicrulation and pull more air through the radiator with the fan.
