Show Manila Clara Robinson -Phone 784-5333 ji J School district holds picnic The Daggett School District held the fall picnic at the Red Canyon Duplex Sept. 15. Steve Thompson, board member, welcomed the guests. A dinner, which had been arranged by board member Agnes Briggs, was enjoyed. Activities for the evening were horseshoes and volleyball. Thirty-one persons were in attendance. The medical service meeting held at the Daggett County Courthouse Sept. 15 drew a small crowd of 23 people. This was partly due to several other activities ac-tivities in the area on the same evening. From a survey made earlier, it was determined that most people felt that the county needs more medical service and needs it badly. It was decided that more information is necessary. After more information is found, another meeting will be scheduled. No decisions were made at the meeting held Tuesday. No primary election will be necessary for the town election for 1981. Only four candidates have registered for the three positions open this year on the council. Anna Scott is the only contender for the office of mayor. While two positions for council persons are open with three candidates, Dave Rosser, Joleen Carter and incumbent William Robinson. TheM & L Homemaker's Club met at the Daggett Senior Citizen Center Sept. 17. The project was "Flower' Arrangements". Displays and demonstrations were by Fern Briggs, Mary Ruble and Judy Hamblin. Jill Taylor demonstrated making bows. She helped several members make bows for their own flower arrangements. Judy Hamblin showed how to make flowers of handiwrap. "It" packages were won by Florence Murphy, Mary Ruble and Rena Pallesen. Rena Pallesen of Dutch John was a guest. The October meeting will be with Dutch John homemakers, the Damsels. Lunch was served buffet style. Mr. and Mrs. Devan Long of Vernal are parents of a son born Sept. 7 at Vernal. He weighed six pounds and was , 18' 2 inches long. He wiJN be named Spencer Devan Long. His paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Norman W. Long of Manila. His maternal grandparents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Christiansen of Logan. Cub Scout Pack 26 will hold their pack meeting at 7:30 Wednesday, Sept. 23 at the Manila LDS Recreational Hall. The Manila LDS Relief Society is . sponsoring a bake sale at the Chevron Service Station Tuesday, Sept. 29 in the afternoon. Proceeds will help on paying for the addition to the Manila LDS Chapel. Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Carter this weekend were Mrs. Carter's parents Gary and Ruth Carter , and their son Syd of Georgetown, Idaho. Donna Pallesen, who has been ill the past two weeks, resumed her duties at the Manila High School Monday morning. Brownie Scouts will register at 3:15 at the Manila Elementary School Monday, Sept. 21. This is for girls in the first through third grades. There were many people in the Manila area Sunday. Many of them visited at the manila LDS Ward. At the same time 25 boats were to be seen at the reservoir at Lucerne. The weather throughout the week has been fair. Starting with a high of 'A degrees above zero on Sept. 13, it rose to 83 on Sept. 18, and dropped to 76 on Sept. 20. No measurable moisture fell, but it became cloudy Saturday and Sunday afternoon and a few drops tif rain fell both afternoons. It was recently released in the Rock Springs Rocket that Melissa and Michelle Steinaker received ribbons from the State Fair for ftxids as follows: Melissa, tea ring. red. foreign cookies, purple; Michelle Steinaker, special occasion cake, blue. A Bike-a-Thon tx'gan at 2 p m Friday, Sept. 18 for Cystic Fibrosis. Students had collected pledges the previous week. Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Robinson Tuesday were Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Haslem of Roosevelt. They were returning from a 3300 mile trip into Canada and Northwestern United Slates. Chase Kllsworth. infant son of Mr and Mrs. Rick Lllsuorth, has returned home from Vernal where he was hospitalised several days last week with a virus. |
