(Sues (sfeslh m tows Jensen's Eugene Woody pocketed his second main event victory in a row in AAU sanctioned fights in Vernal, Saturday when he defeated Walker CriswelJ of Hayden due to a split decision in the 125 pound encounter. Woody also won the main event in fights in Vernal in December. Both fighters were cautious in the first round as they did a lot of moving and exchanged a few blows. The slugging action increased in the second round and Woody connected with a shot, which resulted in a bloody nose for Criswell. Both fighters delivered shots to the body in the second round. Woody began dishing out heavy shots in the third round and had Criswell pushed against the ropes a number of times. Woody connected with a shot to Criswell's head in the final seconds, which shook the fighter from Hayden a bit. Robert Hall of Provo defeated Vince Palmasano of Lyman, Wyo., on a split decision. Hall struck Palmasano in the face and the Wyoming fighter had a problem with a bloody nose in the third round. Orem's Charley Swartz decisioned Brigham City's Ignacco Franco in a battle of heavyweight bruisers. Swartz delivered a number of shots to Franco in the first round, but Franco came on strong in the third round. Franco connected with shots, which forced Swartz to turn his back to Franco and try to get away. Swartz took a standing eight count in the final round, but he won the fight by dominating the first and second rounds. Kirby Johnson of Provo decisioned Richard Donahoe of Orem in a 150 pound encounter, which consisted of heavy blows in the third round. Jesse Pino of Orem, w ho was 26 pounds under weight was decisioned by Brent Walk of Lyman in a 100 pound contest. Michael Antone of Brigham City scored a split decision over Ernie Casey in a 147 pound match and Paco Schultz of Orem decisioned Linford Dick of Brigham City. Lucas Santio of Brigham City defeated Wendall Criswell of Hayden on a split decision in a 124 pound bout, which had a lot of punches exchanged. Ryan Migliaccio of Provo decisioned Mike Powell of Vernal in a 118 pound match. Powell knocked Migliaccio down in the first round, but Migliaccio recovered from the blow and won the fight. Doug Hall of Provo defeated Walter Hayes of Orem due to a split decision in the 100 pound match. Provo's Bob Stoneman won a 124 pound fight with Orem's Gilbert Lacayo on a split decision. Both fighters exchanged a number of punches in the fight, but Stoneman connected with a punch to Lacayo's head, which knocked the Orem fighter to the canvas in the third round. However, Lacayo got up and had Stoneman pinned against the ropes a number of times. Vernal's Larry Harrison captured a victory in the 75 pound contest with a split decision over Aaron Cordova of Provo. Harrison came out smoking in the first round as he sent Cordova diving backward with a blow to the head for a knockdown. However, Cordova came on in the third round and connected with a number of punches. Lyman, Wyoming's Kevin Burkett, 75, knocked Bennie Moore of Vernal to the canvas, twice and he won the contest when the referee stopped the fight. In one of the closest fights of the evening, Vernal's Flynn Paulson, 75, defeated Tadd Peed of Hayden on a split decision. The scores in the fight were: Paulson, 60 and Peed, 57; Peed, 59 and Paulson, 58, and Paulson, 59 and Peed, 59. Paulson defeated Peed by two points, 177 to 175. John Culpepper of Vernal defeated defeated Mike Palmasano of Lyman due to a split decision in a 75 pound contest. Culpepper gained a knockdown in the second round. Jason Wilkenson of Provo, 60, won his fight with Dallas Robinson of Hayden on a split decision. Troy Pino, Orem, 75, decisioned Robbie Behere of- Hayden and was selected as the outstanding boxer in the meet, which was sponsored by the Vernal Boxing Gub. Jay Burr, Vernal, decisioned Eddie Bennett of Hayden and Robert Munroe, Hayden, 65, decisioned Tony Palmasano, Lyman. Nathan Harrison of Lyman competed in two fights in the Vernal meet and he won both bouts as he downed Warlc Ford, Orem, on a split decision and defeated .Steve Cless of Hayden on a decision. Members of the Vernal Boxing Club will compete in fights in Encampment, Wyo., Saturday; Lyman, Feb. 7 and Hayden, Feb. 14.
