Last Christmas grandpa started to Jce plans to take the girls on their jam trip. This was the second time Harold and Ruth, although Harold I spent quite a lot of time there dur-'; dur-'; World War II., Jarold and Ruth flew to Seattle ere they met Janet and Anita. They from Seattle to Honolulu on a 747 ne. The girls had never been on a 747 before and couldn't get over how illy ' big it was. There were 376 ssengers. Jpon arrival in Honolulu, they got tied in their hotel and were soon on t Waikiki beach with its white sands, die in Honolulu, they toured all mts of interest, and took in lovely ices for dinner and dinner shows, rhey flew to the big Island of Hilo, ere they saw various points of in-est in-est and took a bus tour around the lthern part of Hawaii through the lcanic National Park. They went rough the lava tube, where lava had '. through the earth and the girls were filled to see the black sand beaches ,i smoldering volcanoes. They stayed a beautiful hotel outside of Kona. ata, Jan and Harold swam in the Jan, did some snorkeling and saw all 'ids of sea life. All of them went to a iu. They took the Captain Cook's lise and did more swimming. The ; -poise swam ahead of the boat, which 'illy fascinated the girls, rhey then flew to the island of Mawi tfere they visited many points of in-d in-d est in the city of Lahaina. They saw a Buddha, the second largest Banyan tree in the world and did some shopping before returning by bus to their hotel, the Royal Lahaina. The sea was rough and the breakers coming in were too big to get on the beach. Red flags were out for two days, warning people not to swim or surf. After more dinners and dinner shows they flew to the island of Kauai, where they stayed at the Coco Palms Resort. They took the Waibua River boat trip to the Fern Grotto and went to the Waimea Canyon, which is considered the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. The girls saw the lighting of the torches and the flames rise along the Coco Palms Tropical Lagoon. This is something that has been taking place for many, many years despite rain or bad weather. This ceremony takes place with the drums beating and the blowing of the Conch Shell. Anita was introduced to many of the southern pacific islands and their cultures at all four islands including the music of the Hawaiians, Samoans, Tahitians, Fijians and the Tongans. She saw fire dancing and fire eaters. The Polynesian Cultural Center was fascinating. The girls took a boat ride all through the center. Christmas was a delight. Grandpa brought a small Christmas tree and presents for Christmas in Hawaii. The four then flew back to Honolulu to connect con-nect with their flight back to Seattle in another 747. This was a dinner flight with three movies showing all at once, which really delighted the girls. In Seattle they parted with the girls going to Spokane, where they live, and Harold and Ruth flying back to Vernal via way of Rock Springs because the fog was too thick to land. They came from Rock Springs to Vernal by bus. Now the big questions is, "Where to next grandpa?" |
