Show Coach Dennis is Teacher of Month Dennis l reece wrestling coach for lor Uintah High School has been named March Teacher of the Month Coach has taught at Uintah High School for 13 years coming here in 1964 from Colorado State College in Greeley to teach leach industrial education classes woods classes woods electronics drafting and crafts Ills His was a composite major in industrial arts with a math minorI minor I didn't plan on being a wrestling coach mused Dennis I planned on going on into industrial and math education When I started coaching I was just out of I college had played basketball and football on championship teams but very little wrestling But I had some friends who did wrestle and I liked to watch My first year at Uintah I assisted Coach Lou Mele in wrestling and football and the following year I replaced him in the wrestling program COACH conducted a highly successful program while at the high school winning winning winning win win- ning the state championship nine out of ten years Ive had some outstanding students in my industrial classes too said Dennis They did excellent work and excelled in competition The first championship we won reminisced the Coach I laughingly made the remark better get used to silver cause ause its it's all they're going to were see gonna keep the gold Ive I've thought a lot of times limes since about that remark but it really did come true When asked about the highlights of his coaching years at Uintah Dennis said all been highlights to me Some special ones I guess would be last year when we won the Vernal Tournament of Champions Wed We'd invited Pocatello Idaho Montrose Colo Pleasant Grove Olympus Orem and Steamboat Springs Col and they turned out enforce We won by If h point another time would have to Lobe be when Pleasant Grove had beaten us in the Regional tournament and id w we w th them at at tr 1 p t. t was when we first came into Region VI The wrestling team this year were super kids continued continued continued con con- Coach They really performed STACY HALL speaking for forthe forthe forthe the team said He was good to work with i he helped the kids any way he could could we we knew he was with us all the way and we liked him very much Loretta Reynolds said that her son Josh started in the second grade under Coach in the Tiger League program He has terrific rapport with the kids says Loretta As parents our gratitude goes with him wherever he out goes-out at the Brighton Tournament last Saturday he went as a parent but it wasn't long before he was down on his knees rooting for forand forand forand and coaching every single boy Wrestling is his life and his love Dennis was born in Vernal lived in Lapoint a few years and then moved to Craig Colorado where his parents Dean and Pearl built a successful sheep and cattle ranching ng operation Dennis' Dennis love of horses and out- out of-doors of are his heritage lie He married Mary Ann March 21 1964 at Craig They have three 4 DENNIS Uintah High Coach for 13 years children Brian 11 Deanna 8 and Scott 4 4 I guess our family hobby is traveling says the Coach We do a lot of that we go just everywhere take our camper and head out My personal hobbies are wresting wresting- youth season off-season and little league The family will be moving to the Salt Lake area area where Dennis will assume the responsibilities of wrestling coach and teaching duties in the industrial field at Cyprus High School Along with his Teacher of the Month certificate Coach has received dinner for two at the Casa Rios two tickets to the Vernal Theatre and a gift certificate from Vernal Office Supply courtesy of Uintah School Board I have enjoyed Vernal very much said Dennis Thanks to the everyone-the Uintah High faculty students and the community |
