Show History comes comes' alive at Uintah High School When Kathy Hawkins first came to Uintah High School she was determined determined determined deter deter- mined that her English students would get something out of my class that didn't come out of a book And so one of her first projects was the assigning of what has become a tradition in her class Each year the Advanced Sophomore English students in connection with their study of Shakespeare and Julius Caesar choose their own project- project either art or written work as long as it itis itis itis is related to the subjects One memorable project was a model of the Globe Theatre where Shakespeare's plays were presented It was done by Marty Bennion recalls Kathy and was a masterpiece in authenticity STUDENTS do their own research research ch said Hawkins as she is affectionately affectionately affectionately af af- af- af called by her students I feel if they put something of themselves into it history will come alive for them Project hours range from 25 to over and include Roman chariots sculptured busts of Caesar and Shakespeare the city of Rome of-Rome- Rome the theDoric theDoric Doric temple of Athena the Parthenon Parthenon Par Par- thenon which was built on the acropolis at Athens in the century The model of London Bridge is authentic from the aqueducts beneath to the covered tunnels which housed prisoners in those days The river Thames flows past London Bridge to the grounds of Stratford Stratford-on Stratford on Avon von and the model of Shakespeare's boyhood home The vivid coloring and exceptional work do indeed make history come alive |
